Arwin/Arwen

Arwin/Arwen...first thoughts for DD #2?

Re: Arwin/Arwen

  • I like it. And i think it goes well with Destin.

  • Reminds me of Darwin or arson.  It's not actually a name, is it?  Arden is a name, and a pretty one at that.
  • Hmmm...not big on Lord of the Rings names, but not the worst thing I've ever heard.
  • not a fan.  very lord of the rings.
  • It's not very feminine.  No
  • How is that even pronounced?

    Yep: https://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Arwen.html

OP: There was a girl in my high school named Arwen, and the name fit her perfectly. She was one-of-a-kind, spunky, unique, etc. So while it's nms, I think it seems like a good fit for your criteria and goes well with Destin.

  • Nms, but I do admit it goes well with Destin. You should consider Arden, too.

    Ditto!

My first thought was LOTR as well.  I agree with PP that you should consider Arden if you like Arwen.
  • I saw it as a boys name.  Dont like either spelling at all, and REALLY not for a girl at all. Its just "ugly".

  • not a fan; i thought it was a boys' name. BUT...since you didn't ask me if I liked it and instead want to know my spelling preference, I say Arwen.
  • Reminds me of Zack and Cody on the Disney channel....don't know about the LOtheR reference because I am not into it.

  • It is pronouned "Are-Win"...and its at the top of our list right now. We like it b/c it is unisex, unique and something you don't hear everyday. It is from LOTR, but we didn't really make that association til we looked it up.

I think its a little harsh to say its not even a real name, feminine or "ugly"...wow, very harsh. But, I guess I asked for opinions on here, so thats what I get. Thanks for the honesty.

Believe it or not, I have a client who's named after Lord of the Rings characters. Her and each of her sisters have names from the books.

Morwen and Arwen are two that I know of. I actually like Arwen.

  • I definitely think of LOTR, but I love it.  Very pretty.  Very very feminine.  Maybe I feel that way because I picture a lovely elf with flowing gowns...

  • I think it's a pretty name, but just think Lord of the Rings, and can't really get past it.

I like the suggestion of Arden better.

ditto this. if you go with Arwen/Arwin, I'd spell it with an E.

Sorry... I agree with this, it's not a very pretty name.

  • Sounds like a boy's name to me...but then again, I've never seen LOTR.

    Gasp.

  • can't get past the lord of the rings!! but people will soon forget the movie! It's nice!
  • I honestly don't even know why you are asking for opinions. It seems like you only like a name if no one else does. Why are you looking for approval on such an unique name? If people liked it, people would be using it, and it would be popular, and you wouldn't like it.

I think it fits perfectly with your style and think you should use it, but for the record, I hate it.

Agree.... it could have been Zion Crying or Nevaeh

  • It is ok. There are better LOTR names, like Eowyn. Arwen is far from unisex though and so long as you don't mind the LOTR connection go for it.

No  Yuck, ugly name.  Definitely not feminine.

    ITA.

I'm half inclined to lie and say I like the name just so OP will stop posting every other day asking for name suggestions (which she always rejects).

    I agree No

  • Arwen.

I like it.  It is definitely LOTR but that isn't a bad thing.

  • Not really sure what to say to this post...but I like posting on The Bump because it has given DH & I some ideas...and even though we didn't like any of them, doesn't mean I still can't ask.

Some people do like the name, most don't...but I really don't care either way. I just want to get first reactions, what does it make you think of, etc.

There is no need to lie...I enjoy the honesty. But when someone says my name choice is like Nevaeh or that it is ugly - I do think that is too harsh. I have never said on here that a name was horrible, awful, ugly...let alone compared it to Nevaeh (which is one of the most hated names on this site).

  • Reminds me of Lord of the Rings. I like it and prefer the Arwen spelling.
