Out of Pocket Hospital Costs?

hi there!
I know every insurance and hospital is going to vary quite a bit, but do any of you Mom's have a rough estimate of what I can expect to pay out of pocket for the delivery?  I'm delivering at NKC hopstial...and I just have NO idea what to expect...any "ballpark" numbers would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

Re: Out of Pocket Hospital Costs?

  • Based on my insurance, between the OB, Anesthetic, Hospital and Pediatrician, we ended up with about $3k and I have pretty decent insurance. I do have a bridge and a deductible so that amount listed above is the bridge/deductible/20%.. also, we went ahead and just set up payment arrangements so as to not kill ourselves when we were living off my short term disability for those 8 weeks and then double drafts on our benefits... majority of offices/hospitals are pretty cool about it... good luck.

  • We have great insurance and the only thing we had to pay during my whole pregnancy and and 5 day hospital stay was co-pays at my perinatologist appointments (every 2 weeks from 21 weeks on) and then the daily co-pay while in the hospital for both me and the girls. I never had to pay a single co-pay for my OB appointments and I was there every other week from 16 weeks on and weekly the last two months. So I think total I paid about $1500 dollars, not bad since the total cost racked up for all of my appointments and 5 days for all three of us in the hospital probably ran about $100,000 probably more. I had ultrasounds at every single OB and peri appointment, plus from 28 weeks on I went twice a week for NSTs.

I would contant your insurance company and see what they will all cover. At my first OB appointment they called my insurance and found out what my daily hospital copays were, how many ultrasounds they covered, and everything else. Good luck.
