High-Risk Pregnancy

Lovenox. Question about pay.

How in the world am I supposed to pay for lovenox for the next 7 months?
My copay is $600 a month.

I went and got on Medicaid just to pay for the Rx, and then Medicaid won't pay for it because I have other insurance.

I can't use the patient assistance program because I'm on Medicaid.

  • Ask for a prescription for heparin instead. You will have to give yourself shots more frequently (usually twice instead of once a day) but it is A LOT cheaper! I am going to do heparin.

  • Oh, my goodness! I'm so sorry that it's not covered for you! Mine is only $25 per month....although I know that's not what you want to hear. :(
  • I had the same issue. Insurance covers Lovenox, but 30 day supply would cost about $550. Heparin, which is two shots daily, cost me $170 for a 30 day supply. And heparin is not covered by my insurance. Totally sucks and doesn't seem fair!

  • Are you sure medicaid won't pay?  We had it for about a month during the last pregnancy, and they covered the lovenox.  We just had the pharmacy file with them first, even though dh had insurance through work.

    Might be worth a try?

  • Your normal insurance will not cover it?

I guess I'm lucky, mine does and I use the mail in prescription plan and get a 90 day supply for $100.

  • lurker here!! i work for a state medicaide HMO and usually how it works is your pharmacy bills your primary insurance then bills the left over copay to the medicade. they should pick up that $600.

This.  I pay $65 for 3 month supply of lovenox through mail-in.

  • My first 9 days cost $800 but that helped us meet our deductible and now it's $30 a month. Call your insurance and see if heparin is covered- typically it is less expensive.

In my case heparin isn't covered by my insurance at all so it would have been $200 a month for me.

    Good luck!

  • I'm wondering if that'd work, billing the remainder to Medicaid, I'll call my pharmacy.

In the meantime I've switched to a new drug plan with Medicare part D that supposedly does cover the Lovenox and I'd pay $3.30 a month.
