Night time feeding

Right now baby girl (9 weeks), goes to sleep between 8 and 9. She sleeps about 5 hours and then wakes up to eat and goes shorter 2 hour stints after that. Seeing if we should wake her up to feed her at 11 to get her to sleep longer through the night. Seeing what works with you all and should we try to put her to bed earlier? She is a petite little thing at just 10.5 pounds (born at 5.5 pounds). Thanks for your advice.

Re: Night time feeding

  • I wouldn't put her to bed earlier just yet.  I would try to do a dream feed around 11.  That's a retty good weight for 9 weeks.  DD was 7lbs 12 oz when she was born and was 10 lbs 15 oz at her 2 month check-up.

  • my DD did this, but not quite as extreme. She would go to sleep at 8ish and just be like floppy sleepy, nothing you could do to waker her until she was ready... which usually translated into 2-3 a.m. Then she'd be back on her 3-4 hour feeding schedule after that.  Then, one night, miraculously, she just skipped the 2 a.m. and made it til 4, then it got progressively longer with the occasional relapse til now.... when she sets bedtime (just like she did before) between 7 and 8:30 and sleeps til at least 5:30.  I say if she sets her bedtime, let her.  She'll make it right.
  • I tried this with my son and I have totally screwed everything up...or he just decided to change things on his own. We were doing some traveling and he usually takes his last feed around 8, bed at 9, then sleeps for 5 hours, up every 2 hours after that. Well I thought that if I fed him when we got home late one night around midnight that he would sleep longer, letting me get some more sleep. Boy was I wrong. He was up for several hours after we woke him. Now he has not been consistent for a week.
