Daycare/MDO Moms

Do your little ones go through phases of being totally happy at drop off and other times being hysterical? I just don't get it with Grant. He'll go 2-3 weeks totally happy, telling me to "go bye bye mama" etc. And then there are weeks like this week where he has the biggest meltdown when I leave. Just curious if this is common.

Thanks!

  • Yep.  Not so much with Kaitlyn, but Micaela was like that until she was like 4-5.  She would go through periods of not caring that I was leaving and then several weeks of crying when I would drop her off.  It always left me baffled too. hehe

  • Not with Reagan. I'm lucky if she says bye when they take her out of the car! I think Abby may be a different story this fall.

  • Cole does this.  Everyday is a new day, sometimes he is fine and tells me bye, then otherdays he is crying and screaming.  He usually calms down within a couple of minutes, but it is heartbreaking for me.
  • Yes indeed, last week DD fought me.  This week she couldn't care less about me even walking her to her classroom.  It's hard and I feel so guilty when I "force" her to go.
  • DS usually doesn't care when I drop him off - there might be some sniffles, but the teachers are good at distracting him to whatever they are doing rigth away and he forgets.  Sometimes he waves bye and sometimes I just sneak out.  However, if DH drops him off, he practically has a meltdown and reaches out his arms for him.  He is much more attached to DH right now!  Everything is Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.  I usually drop him off in the mornings and DH picks him up- so it works out ok for all of us! lol.

  • Yep, E does this, too -- especially since I got pregnant as it seems she's more attached/clingy to me in general.  But there are times, like you said, when she hits the door, says goodbye, and is good to go.
  • Rena does this too! I'm glad she's not the only one. It's hard for her to go back to school after a long break (vacation, out sick, etc). And DH drops her off 95% of the time and she's usually fine with him. But if have to drop her off she always gets upset. I'm off on Fridays and she usually stays home with me. So I think if she sees me at home in the morning she just thinks that we're staying home. It's so hard and I always feel so guilty when she's upset!

  • Mason has been doing this for the Summer MDO program.  I think it is because they have more kids in his class and they moved physical classrooms (same teachers).

The new classroom is smaller than the previous room with more kids and I don't think anyone (teachers included) are happy in that room.

  • Yup. I think it is just like us. There are days when you want to go to work, days when you don't, and days when your realize it was a bad idea right after you get there.
