I've gotten my son in some bad habits! First of all he used to sleep in his crib from 8-3am have a bottle then back to bed until 6ish. He got really sick in April and I let him sleep with us and he has been sleeping with us ever since. He usually will go to bed around 8 in his crib and wakes up probably every 3 hours until I bring him in bed with us. I usually give in around 3am. I don't know what to do! I don't want to let him CIO.
My mom watches him during the day while I'm at work and since he was a newborn she has held him for all of his naps- no matter how many times I tell her to put him down to sleep. Now I am home for the summer and trying so hard to make him nap in his crib he will only last sleeping in his crib for 30-45 minutes tops. If he sleeps with me he will nap for 2 hours. I'm trying so hard to get him out of these horrible sleeping habits but I don't know what to do. His napping stretches aren't getting any longer after 2 weeks and when he wakes up and realizes that he is in his crib he screams bloody murder! Anyone have sugguestions?
Re: Anyone still cosleep at 10 months?? Horrible sleeping habits!!
H cosleeps with about 60% of the time.
Have you put him in his crib and sat in the room until he falls asleep? This is what we do with H (there is crying), but he will sleep for 1-2 hours now.
rock him to sleep. He needs physical contact to fall asleep. For some reason he likes to play with our ears (weird, I know) lol but he can't fall asleep unless we are holding him and he is touching our ears. He is also so squirmy he wakes himself up at night moving around like crazy and rubbing his eyes. I'll put him in his crib after he falls asleep and it usually only lasts 2-3 hours until he wakes up and I have to rock him back to sleep again.
I really do love having him sleep with us at night, on nights that he stays asleep until 3ish I have a hard time fallign asleep without him lol. I love it but would rather stop it now because I dont want to end up with a 7 year old in my bed! lol
If you all sleep better if he's in bed with you, and you enjoy it, I don't see why you would change it. Most LOs transition just fine out of their parents bed way before 7. DD still sleeps with us, and I know a lot of moms on this board are still cosleep/bed sharing and plan to until their LO moves to a big boy/girl bed.
There's nothing wrong with it! Do what works for you, and don't worry about changing it until it no longer works for your family.
If co-sleeping works for your family and you don't want to stop, there is no need to. BUT-
We were co-sleeping until about a week ago, and I just couldn't take it anymore. She was no longer happy in the co-sleeper - only wanted to be laying in my bed, and cuddled close. I LOVE the bonding but my back was killing me after a while, and I wasn't getting the proper sleep *I* needed. Not to mention she was up several times a night bc nursing was just so convenient.
The back pain alone was enough for me to say 'enough'... and I just made our bedroom off limits. I did whatever I needed to do to get her to sleep, without bringing her into our room. OH. MY. GOSH. The difference has been crazy. I think she just gave up asking for it bc she knew she wasn't getting it. Her old schedule: asleep at 7pm, up at 11, 1, 4, 5 and then up for the day at 6/6:30. Her new schedule: asleep at 7pm, up to eat at 1am, 5am (and right back down), and up for the day at 6:30.
We were in a similar situation....DD would end up in bed with us anywhere between 11 and 4, depending on how tired we were & how many times she'd been up so far that night (typically up hourly at her worst). She got to the point where she wasn't sleeping, even with us....so we had to resort to CIO, as much as we didn't want to (NCSS didn't work for her). She now sleeps 7-6, in her crib & wakes up happy. Naps are much improved too, two 1 1/2-2 hour naps....used to be two 30 minute naps. FWIW, I also held her for all naps until she was 2 months old.
GL....sleep training is SO hard.
