Not perceiving fetal hiccups?

Ok, I don't *think* I have felt any fetal hiccups at this point. I thought maybe I did about 2 weeks ago, but I just have no idea. She's very active, but I'm just not sure about the hiccups. She is head down so one of my friends suggested that I just can't feel them down there, but I just don't know. I swear I float from one panic to another with this kid.

Anyone else not felt them? I'm wondering if maybe I am feeling them, but I just don't realize they are hiccups. Help =(

Do you ever feel small movements that recur at regular (short) intervals?

  • I think I have. I guess I'm just expecting it to be more dramatic...lol

  • I feel them daily. They are rapid (much faster than I expected) and they feel very similar to a small muscle twitch. I feel them in my lower pelvis and usually last 5-10 mins
  • Mine feel like small bubbles popping that happen every couple of seconds and lasts for about 30 seconds max. Half the time if I'm not paying attention I'd not notice it.

With my first I had no idea what hiccups were.

They really aren't dramatic, which is probably why you haven't noticed them before.  With my first they felt like small, rhythmic bumps that lasted 5-15 minutes on average.
  • I'm 37 weeks and have never felt them.  I don't know if my anterior placenta has anything to do with it or not.  We could see them on the U/S but I haven't felt them.

  • They are very fast and small. Not anything like I expected at all. To me the only comparison is if you get an eye twitch but on your stomach. LOL! It's very small like an eye twitch but its very frequent. My LO tend to last for about 15 min before they subside for a while. But I usually get them almost daily now. Its the rhythem of it that gives it away.

Mine feel like a strong pulse/heartbeat very close to my hip bone or pubic bone (head down baby). They happen almost every 3 seconds and last about 1-5 minutes. His hiccups happen more often in the evening after I eat or while driving to work in the morning.

He gets the hiccups 1-3 times a day, when he is very active. I love feeling them and seeing how he gets all worked up when it happens!

  • I have only started feeling them in the last month and it is probably only once a week.  I felt them with my first pg, not my second and and do again with the third.
  • Ok, not worried anymore. I guess I just didn't realize what I was feeling. I think I was expecting my entire stomach to bob up & down, but if they are more like a little pulsating thing, then I have definitely felt that. I'll just try & pay attention more after I eat to sense it.

Thank you all for responding so quickly! I feel much better!

To me it sometimes feels like a second pulse in my tummy, only slower than a regular heartbeat.

This is exactly what I feel with mine. I didn't realize until my 3D ultrasound what those were. We were able to see her hiccuping on the monitor. That was really cool to see.

    Pretty much this.

But I feel it more strongly on my right side.  I think that's where his butt has been for the past few weeks.  Sometimes I feel it there and on the lower left side, like it shakes his whole body.

And I get it several times a day.

My LO had hiccups at our last checkup, and I didn't even feel them at the time.  I don't think everyone feels them every time.  I'm guessing LO has to be in a position where you'd be more susceptible to feeling her movements.

Its not dramatic but the dead giveaway is how rhytmic it is.  All of baby's other movements are completely random.

ITA with this. But, also, it's not a huge deal if you don't feel hiccups. Some babies get them more than others. As long as you feel movement, that's more important than feeling "hiccups."

  • I only felt them one time with DD, and it was probably at like 38 weeks. Totally freaked me out. I feel them more regularly with DS, but I think it just depends on his position and how strong they are. I wouldn't worry about it. LO is fine.

  • I just started feeling them around 33 weeks. It almost feels like if you were to tap lightly on your tummy with your finger. They aren't that strong and only last for about 30 secs to a minute at most for me. Usually after I've had a large glass of water.

  • I didn't feel the hiccups until later in pregnancy, I never thought it was a red flag just figured LO didn't get them - now LO has them all the time and you can definately tell, it's a recurring, rythmic feeling

  • One day behind you and I feel them all the time. Particularly when she is head down because they vibrate against my cervix.
  • I didn't start feeling them until around where you are, and it took me awhile to know that's what they were.
  • My LO usually gets them 2x day.  DH can usually feel them on the outside too.  I didn't start feeling them until around 29/30 weeks.

  • I think I felt them for the first time around where you are and I haven't felt them frequently - maybe 5-6 times total so far.
