Anyone else have this??? My due date was?yesterday, and I still have not?dilated?and the baby's head is still high. The doctor wants me to have a c-section because he has little faith that his head will drop and because the baby is?supposedly?large (8lbs 5oz..not large to me)! I just feel like I need to try to have him naturally instead of choosing an 'elective' c-section(as he called it).?
So...Monday night I will go to the hospital and they will give me cream to open up my cervix and Tuesday Morning they will start me on pitocin! I am okay if I end up in a c-section..i just feel as though I need to try to have him?vaginally?first, especially becasue this is my first!
anyone else?experience?this or have any knowledge about it?????
Re: baby still high...but being induced!
Agree with this! I'm 1 cm and baby is 'low' but head not completely engaged in pelvis, which is keeping me from progressing further. I'm seeing a chiropractor and acupuncturist and masseuse, basically doing everything I possibly can to get baby into position. If all else fails we'll induce at 41w6d. As long as baby is healthy, your fluid levels are good, etc - there's nor eason to induce any earlier. And 8.5 is NOT that big (I"m measuring at 9lb2oz right now and my MW is not concerned).
For me, if baby shows distress during contractions, it will indicate that the reason he didn't drop all the way is because he's tangled in the cord somehow, and we'll have to go to a c-section. I am very sad about that possibility, for completely selfish reasons. Childbirth is always something I wanted to experience as a woman. But I'm coming to terms with the possibility. Baby is most important.
Sorry to hear this. It sounds like the size is more of the issue.
I, personally, would ask for a growth u/s before you make your decision.
After all, c-sections are considered major sugery and waiting until 41.5 weeks really isn't that far off.
I was induced with my second and baby was high, cervix was closed, and no effacement. It was my second birth, so that may have effected things, but the induction went great. I had even passed on the cervidil, because I only wanted it if they would monitor me in the hospital.
At any rate, they broke water and did pitocin - upping the meds gradually and monitoring the dosage. Make sure you ask for this, because it can make the difference for how strong the contractions are. Because they carefully watching the dosage, my induction didn't feel any different than my frist birth without meds.
Also, my two cents is to wait as long as possible (or pass) on the epidural. Especially if you get it early with an induction, it can really slow/stall things down until they have to constantly up the pitocin or labor stalls.
Definitely go for the induction first. Good luck!
And I agree with the other posters, measuring the size at this stage can be so inaccurate. They can tell a little better with u/s, but even that can be off because what they do is average together head, tummy size, and leg bone. If you happen to grow a baby with a big tummy, or a big head, it can really throw the measurements off.
All that being said, my first was 41 weeks and 9.9. I was induced with my second and he was 7.7. So. Much. Better.
