sick of these headaches

I am very glad I am no longer getting migraines anymore, but it seems like i always have a "normal" headache now. They are not horrible, but they are annoying enough to make me not want to do anything. I hear they only increase during the 2nd tri. I can handle being nauseous, tired, and emotional but I am a big baby when it comes to headaches. Stupid Tylenol doesn't really help either. Tried drinking some soda to see if the caffeine would help and so far nothing. I'm sure its something I just have to deal with but man it would be nice to have a break from them. Anyone else in my shoes? If so is there anything you have found that helps?

  • Yeah the headaches totally suck! I skipped out on the m/s but the dizzyness and h/a are the worst!

I use a cold compress on my forehead and eyes. I actually bought one of those gel masks with the eyes cut out. I throw it in the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes and put that on. Usually works pretty well.

  • I hadnt had a migraine since I got pregnant, then I got a headache on Tuesday that really hasnt gone away completely since.

  • I hear ya! I get a headache a day it seems. It usually happens in the afternoon/evening. It has stopped me from doing things because I hate going places with a headache because it seems to get worse. I was supposed to go to a concert in the park tonight, but I'm home because I didn't think a headache, 600+ people, and a concert would go well together.

Mine also come in the late afternoon/evening. Sorry you had to miss your concert. I don't blame ya though I wouldn't have gone if it were me. I didn't even go out to dinner with our friends last night because of it.

Going to try a cold compress tonight and see how that works.

  • I've been taking Tylenol PM since it's one of the only things on my dr.'s list of things safe to take.  Tylenol doesn't help me much either, but if it's bad at bed at least it allows me to sleep and it's usually better when I wake up.  Good luck!
  • I am right in the same boat ladies!  I used to get bad migraines, got them under control, and now that I am pg I have these lil annoying headaches daily that will last a few hours through out the day.  I've done the cold compress thing before when one of my headaches got really bad.  Instead of my forhead and eyes I put it on the back of my neck (which someone said helps with stress headaches) and that seemed to dull it.  So it's not a bad option to try if Tylenol doesn't do squat for ya.
  • I am in your shoes!  Headaches suck so much.  I've always gotten them, but now I'm getting them more frequently and they're worse.  I really try to avoid taking medicine too.  My best recommendations are to avoid laying in awkward positions, lifting heavy things, or any other activity that can cause muscle tension.  Also, you can always try lying on your back with an ice pack on your forehead and one under your neck for 20 minutes.  Beg for massages from your hubby.  Ooh and drink lots of water.  I truly do feel your pain...and frustration.  GL!

I had a CRAZY headache last night when I was trying to go to bed. I thought, "it couldn't be dehydration because I've been drinking so much." But this morning (after my mid-night pee) I had pretty dark pee. I hadn't had enough to drink. So keep pushing the liquids and try to avoid foods that are too salty. I think the salty foods got me last time.

That being said, staying very well hydrated won't make it totally go away, given that we all just have way more blood volume than we used to. So, I look forward to seeing other peoples' responses for how to deal with the headaches. I never used to get any sort of headaches, but I definitely get them now.

  • I have been getting headaches almost daily now that I am in the second tri. They start late morning and are usually gone by the evening. I have only gotten a couple migraines since I found out I was pregnant, thank goodness.

  • Like some PP's have said: try lots of liquids, caffine, tylenol.  I am also going to start going to a chiropractor.  Mine are definitely tension headaches and a friend who just had a baby recommended a place she went to-  they are familiar with pregnancy chiropractic work and really helped her headaches.

  • I am in the same boat! Mine last for days and nothing seems to make it better. To avoid them I have been drinking even more water, and when I know I will be out in the sun or working out I drink a gatorade, which has helped me to avoid the problem for the most part.
  • I'm right there with you ladies. I've been getting headaches all the time and they seem to last forever.
  • I have gotten migraines for the past 6 years or so.  About 2 weeks ago (13 weeks 5 days pg) I got a horrible one.  First went my vision, then my neck started hurting severely, and then I started vomiting.  I couldn't keep anything down all day.  So, my OB gave me a shot.  I'm not exactly sure what it was,but it was a combination of an anti-anxiety, muscle relaxant, and anti-nausea.  It knocked me out for 15 hours.  I pray I don't get another migraine.

It's just a mystery because many women that have previously dealt with migraines prior to pregnancy find relief in pregnancy, and well, others don't!
