Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 Month Appointment

Well... Mr. Carter is 16lbs 6z and 25.5 inches long. He had two shots today and was such a big boy! He only cried for a minute. (Mommy didn't cry at all this time) He is growing well and hitting all of his milestones with the exception of rolling. The pedi told us to put him on the floor more often and if he still doesn't roll in the next few weeks he has to see a developmental specialist. Of course now I am freaking out! Anyway, all and all a good appt. Let's just hope he rollss soon.

Just curious, roll onto his stomach or just onto his side? My DS is 17 weeks and has not rolled onto his stomach yet, but always rolls onto his side. Pedi didn't say this was a problem. Should I freak out too now?

  • We told her he had been rolling to his side, but she meant all the way over. I thought we still had some time. Didn't mean to freak you out. All pedis have different opinions. Hopefully, we have nothing to worry about :)
  • We can't be the only ones. I'll remain calm for now =)
  • That sounds pretty alarmist to me.  DS has only rolled tummy to back once (fluke), and has never done back to tummy.  He goes onto his side but can't get his arm out of the way yet.  Today the pedi told us it is absolutely nothing to worry about until at least 6 months.  She said the average time it happens is 5 months.
  • Try not to worry.  DD was only rolling side to side at her 4 month appt.  Pedi wasn't worried at all.  She did say to put her toys a little out of her reach to encourage rolling.  DD started rolling at 4.5 months which presents a whole new set of stuff to freak out about. :)
  • oh please...do NOT worry about the rolling.  my 3 yr old didn't roll forever and she is absolutely fine.  your pedi sounds a little crazy.

My 4 month old can only roll onto her side too.  I wouldn't worry....nor would I see a specialist but to each his own!
