Unsolicited Advice

What is the worst, dumbest you have been told??

Re: Unsolicited Advice

  • That I am ridiculous for considering a natural birth because it is going to HURT BAD.  Thanks, a-hole.

  • That I'm stupid for not finding out what I'm having. And that your suppose to find out, it's not natural if you don't.

Um...tell that to the past generations of women who didn't know what they were having.

  • "dont eat spicy food.. it can hurt the baby"

coming froma  woman that smoked during her pregnancy

"dont use pregnancy as an excuse to eat what you want"

coming from my most overweight friend that ate everything battered and deep fried when prego.

  • That I better not watch scary movies because I'll "mark" the baby! OMG so stupid.  That was my MIL who also doesn't want me using anything that vibrates, ie: lawnmower or toothbrush.  I felt like saying a very inappropriate comment about other things that vibrate!
  • That I should pour out every drop of my expensive scotch collection because as a mom, I should never drink alcohol ever, ever again. This, coming from a never-married, childless man.
    "To me, you are perfect."

I'm with you!  I'm not finding out either.  To each their own, but can you imagine a more wonderful surprise in your entire life??

    SLAP THAT MAN!!

  • That I better sleep now, b/c once baby comes, I won't sleep for 18 years.

Also, it drove me CRAZY with DD that people assumed that since I had no children yet, I knew NOTHING about babies, and would proceed to tell me tons of ridiculous and completely obvious things. Never mind that I had been a nanny for a couple years and worked in multiple daycares etc.

Sorry but I have to agree.  I haven't slept through a whole night since DD was born and that was 2 years ago.

  • Last weekend at my brother's wedding, my grandma told me I needed to stop dancing, or the baby might fall out. For realzies. I thanked her for her concern, and continued to boogie.

This drives me crazy too.  I have been babysitting/practically raising family members and close friends kids since I was 12 and although I know this is not the exact same thing as being a mother, I do know a thing or two about babies and children.  All of my friends who have kids continue to tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about and I'm in for such a rude awakening like I've never been around a child before.  It's ridiculous.

Every kid is different tho... hopefully yours gets out of that soon! :)

    Haha... Awwww Grandma!

  • That breastfeeding is not worth it and I'll get tired of it soon so why bother trying.

That I am in for a rude awakening (I'm the oldest of 6 and my youngest sibling is 11) and have no idea how much work this is going to be.

Anything having to do with my own health and how to take care of myself.

What's annoying about it is that people acted like I had no idea that DD wouldn't sleep all night!  Like that isn't a basic known thing about babies LOL.  Turns out, although I know they are all different, my DD is actually a good sleeper and we get a full night MOST nights.

  • That good thing I finally decided to get pregnant since I am in the "high risk" category for my age.....I'm only 32!
  • That sex is ok during pregnancy. (I already knew this). From a complete stranger. She explained in great detail to me that the baby can't see the penis coming at their face because its dark so its ok.

You should have told him it's not for you, it's for when your kid won't go to sleep, lol

  • That I should quit my job, stay at home, and be a "real mom" after the baby's born. This from an attorney who sleeps around on the stay-at-home mother of his child. I let him know how much his opinion meant- what a family man.
