Top 5 things DH's/SO's should know to make a pregnant woman happy

Top 5 things DH?s should know to make their pregnant wife/SO happy.

5.  When a pregnant woman asks for help with cleaning the house, don?t volunteer that his mother come stay with you for a while to help out.  That?s not helping.  That?s creating a whole set of new problems.

4.  When a pregnant woman says that her back/leg/etc. is hurting, don?t respond back with ?well, my back/leg/etc. hurts from playing sports- how come I don?t get any attention?

3.  If you see something on the floor, pick it up.  She won?t see it until she?s stepped on it or she already tried to pick it up but couldn?t reach that far or fell over trying to get it and gave up.  So just pick it up!

2.  The answer is yes.  It doesn?t matter what the question is.  Should I rub your feet?  Yes.  Can I run out and get you your favorite food you?re craving at the moment?  Yes.

1.  Never, ever wake a happily sleeping pregnant woman.  Don?t you know how hard it is for a pregnant woman to get comfortable enough to fall asleep?  Plus, she?ll need to wake up soon enough to make a run for the bathroom.  She doesn?t need you to wake her up to ask if she?s ok sleeping on the couch.  Obviously, if she fell asleep on the couch, she was comfortable!

#1 has happened 3 nights in a row.  That's what got me started on this list.  Feel free to add your own!!  I'll make it a top 10, 20, etc.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • LOL at your #1.. DH does this to me all the frickin time.  Mostly if he catches me even remotely laying on my back. So annoying. I want to strangle him every time he does it!

  • Another rule for DH- I know your kidney stones hurt, but dont try to convince me that they are WORSE than childbirth. I might agree to a tie, but please, your on meds, suck it up! Im gonna have to suck it up when the baby comes and the vag is sore as hell for 6 weeks, so you better do the same!

  • Don't feel the need to explain to her that she is just hormonal and that's why she is upset.  She already knows that and it won't make her feel better or less upset with you.
  • I remember DH came home from work with a cupcake in hand.  He also put sunblock on my feet for me, I wasn't expecting it, I thought that was sweet.  It's the little things like that...
  • At no point during this pregnancy would it be a good idea for you to decide to "get in shape and loose some weight".  Esp. if I've been after you for years to be healthier.  In short you are not allowed to loose weight until I am so grab that beer and bag of potato chips and sit right back down on that couch fatty...we're in it to win it.

LOL LOVE THIS!!!  DH commented at our birthign class that he had no idea that he was going to truly gain weight right along with me...he then blamed me.  Ummmmm buddy you are the one asking to go to Chinese Buffets once a week...NOT me!  lOl
  • HJAHAHAHA DH did #1 last night! Then I couldn't go back to sleep for like 2 hours. UGH!
  • I love #3, that's just too funny and too true.

  • Yes to the exercise thing! My husband (who doesn't even need to lose any weight) has started the P90x training thing and complains all day about how his muscles hurt. It makes me crazy! Then when I asked him to get me a milkshake he said no, that neither of us needed the calories. Worst expectant father ever!!

Mine has lost 15 pounds since I got pregnant. And he was thin to begin with! Now that I am aware of it, I'm trying to fatten him up some.

I've had two sets of kidney stones before, and I am hoping that the people I know who have had both and say that kidney stones are worse are correct.  They are indescribable pain-wise and were way, way worse than any part of pregnancy so far.

That said, he should be quiet about it!

15 lbs!....In my book that is grounds for separation.  In fact I think it should be illegal for your husband to weight less than you at any time during pregnancy.  If you guys are close in weight to start with than he should have to gain weight in order to stay ahead of you.  It's only fair.

  • DH has lost a total of almost 50 pounds! I'm proud of him and he looks fantastic, although it's a little rough when he's getting dressed and saying, "Oh, can't wear those pants cause they're falling off" and "Wow this shirt fits again."

Meanwhile I miss zippers and buttons and anything non elastic or jersey knit. Lol!

  • I'd like to add: If you're both sitting down and relaxing and the phone rings, don't ask the pregnant lady to be the one to get up to answer it. Do you know what the pressure feels like in the groin and lower belly every time you have to stand up regardless of your speed? Do you know how hard it is to move at all, let alone move quickly?

LOL - My husband did this to me during our first pregnancy. He came home one day after going to get me Chic-fil-a (i was in my 3rd month) and said that he was too young to look and feel so old. The next day he joined a gym and spent my entire pregnancy losing weight and getting in shape while I packed on 47lbs! By the time I delivered, he was in the best shape of his life and I was so not. Definitely not fair but it did give me motivation to lose the baby weight.

  • Ooooooo- Men losing weight while we pack it on and not making pregnant women get up for the phone.  Those are both great ones!  I knew you ladies would come up with more.

  • #3 and #4. Although #4 is to a point of I am going to kill him. Almost every night - and I am overdue - I hear "Baby....can I have rubbies?" He means his back and I just want to kick him in the face! Harsh I know, but really? Every day he comes home with the STUPIDEST issues..."Oh my knees HURT!" REALLY? I never complain anymore since there's no point. I did once about my back and he said "wow you've got lots of issues" GRRRR!
