My husband has been having a hissy fit that I am using those little drink mix packets to make sure I am getting enough water--now he has decided that because they have aspartame (artifical sweetner, or NutraSweet), that I'm somehow poisioning our baby and causing his stomach problems. Fat chance, since he doesn't seem to have any more stomach problems when I am drinking alot of water with those packet mixes than when I don't. But anyway...what are you guys doing about your NutraSweet intake? I read this on KellyMom but I'm not sure that is going to be enough to convice him--there is alot of conflicting info out on the web.

I try not to go crazy with it, but it honestly it doesn't worry me that much. If I was nursing a baby with PKU, it would be a problem. I'm exposed to all sorts of other chemicals that are probably worse just by eating fruit, wearing clothing, and having a stain-resistant sofa. I do think that it is likely that there are a good number of people who have a sensitivity or allergy to aspartame which results in all the bad stories about it. Since your LO is having tummy trouble whether or not you have the drinks, I'd suspect that something else in your diet may be problem--possibly milk.
Most of the ladies on here will likely disagree with me, though. There are many who prefer to avoid artificial sweetners.
My 3yo is normal and healthy despite nursing for 2 years while I had 2 diet sodas per day.
