uncontrollable acne during pg?

i can't take it anymore. i can't control the acne on my face. i never had this when i was pg with mady and it's gotten to the point where i refuse to use makeup to not cause a flare up. i can play it off with make-up on weekends but it still looks blotchy red.

i'm using neutrogena acne face wash, neutrogena acne toner and i put on oil of olay moisturizer during the day. if you have had this pg symptom what did you do? any products you can recommend?

i'm about to call my ob and tell her im desperate for her to recommend something. (if that's even possible).

Re: uncontrollable acne during pg?

  • My forehead became the bumpiest road in the world when I was pregnant!  I used a clean and clear gel that really helped.  The facewash I used was Boscia but it was the same one I always used.  Can't speak for neutrogena because it gives me serious allergies.

I would say that this all went away around my mid 2nd trimester, not sure if it was the gel, the hormones or the fact that I stopped stressing about it, but it def went away.

    Good Luck!

  • mine was BAD (incidentally, Dawn SWORE up and down that because my acne was so bad, I'd be having a girl ;-)  )

I used Johnson and Johnson Clean and Clear acne wash 3x a week.  It worked amazingly.  I had acne on my facd and all over my arms.  It worked really well on my face but the arm oe is still clearing up, though it's much, much better now.  the J&J C&C worked way better than any Rx stuff, too!

  • That happened to me with Nicholas.  There was not a spot on my face that didn't have a pimple on it.  It went away after the 1st trimester though, Definitely ask your OB if there is anything she can do.
  • Ugh, I hate this symptom! I still get breakouts more often than pre-pregnancy, but it is better overall than it was during 1st tri.
  • That was one of my first symptoms.  MIL didn't want to prescribe anything because she considered it mild.  So, I waited until after the first tri and I started using the Aveeno Foaming Face Wash (.5% salycilic acid) and Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Cream (2.5% benzoyl peroxide).  I put about a pea-sized amount all over my face before I go to bed.  I did a bit of research first on these two chemicals and those amounts are not enough to pass through to the baby and I double checked with my OB and he said it was okay.  It has helped tremendously, but then again I'm also in my 2nd tri now.
