3rd Trimester

You ladies may hate me (birth story w/ PIP)

Friday: I went to my 38 week dr appt last Friday and they did a growth ultrasound since my belly was measuring small. The tech said that everything looked good except that my fluids were low. They like them to be around 10, but mine was 4.5. I knew that when that happens they usually like to induce, so I was expecting the dr to say in a week or so. He came in and said I was being induced the next night! They checked me and I was at a loose 1 cm and was 70% effaced, so they were going to start me on Cervidil Saturday night and then 12 hours later start the Pitocin. I went to the dr expecting him to say everything was perfect and he would let me go as long as LO wanted to stay, but I walked out with Kylie's eviction notice in hand! I could barely sleep that night. I just kept thinking "My baby is going to be here soon!"

Saturday: I had most of my bags packed except for the bathroom stuff, so I packed all that Saturday and then laid in bed until it was time to go. DH took me out to eat for supper and then we made our way to the hospital at 6. They got me in my room and did all the paperwork and stuff then started the Cervidil around 7:30. I didn't start feeling anything until later that night. I didn't sleep at all. I was cramping so bad that I couldn't get comfortable any way that I laid.

Sunday: The nurses came in at 7:30 and removed the Cervidil (thank God!) and started me on Pitocin around 8. They kept checking me every little while. I was 2 cm by 10 and 3 cm and 90% effaced by noon, that's when the dr broke my water. After he did that I actually felt the contractions I was having and boy were they strong! Luckily, they gave me the epidural right afterwards so the pain didn't last long at all. I didn't feel a single contraction with the epidural. They checked me again at 4 and I was 4 cm. The dr said I would probably deliver before dark. He checked again at 5 and I was 5 cm then again at 6 and I was 6 cm. He then told the family it would probably be around 9 or 9:30 so they could go get some supper if they wanted. Everyone left except for DH's friend's wife, who just happens to be a doula. Around 6:45 I was feeling pressure, so I told her and DH, so she went and got the nurse. The nurse lifted my gown to check me and said "Ummm, her head is right there!". I went from 6 cm and zero station to 10 cm and +3 station in 45 minutes! DH and I got on our phones to tell everyone to come back that it was time. There was only one problem.. my dr was in the room next door delivering another baby. The nurse had me do some practice pushes while I was waiting on the dr. Luckily he made it in just enough time. Kylie Brooke was born June 13 at 6:51 pm. She was 5 lb 15 oz and 19 inches long. After a almost completely pain-free day and only 6 minutes of pushing, I was finally holding my baby girl! Oh, and did I mention I didn't tear at all?!

I haven't had much pain at all since then, only slight cramping for about 2 days, but the Percocets helped with that. I don't even feel like I had a baby. I was up and moving around that night and sitting up in bed holding Kylie while the family was visiting. I have to say, my pregnancy, delivery and recovery were all very easy!

Now for what you've all been waiting for, the picture of my LO.
