Hey girls. I just found out yesterday that my hcg levels were back down to 2 as of Monday. We are officially TTA until September now. However, during this last m/c I started taking Prometrium because my progesterone was low. However, I didn't start taking it until like 5 days after I got my BFP (so like 19 dpo). In my head, I have conjured up that the reason I miscarried is because I began taking the progesterone so late. I have read that the only way for it to be effective is if you start taking it immediately after ovulation.
So, when the nurse called me yesterday, I asked her about when we start TTC again, if I should start taking the Prometrium right after I ovulate. She said "no I think most girls just start taking it after they get a positive pregnancy test". Sooo what do you girls think? Should I push the issue and ask again? Just follow what they said and don't start taking the Prometrium until after a BFP? Or just eff what they say and start taking it after I ovulate anyway since it won't hurt anything??
TIA. Sorry this was so long!
Re: question for those who took progesterone
My previous 2 doctors had me start it after the BFP with my 3rd, 4th and 5th pregnancies. I had asked if I could take it earlier and my RE said no.....that it wouldn't make a difference. I don't believe everything he says, since he also told us to quit trying. My new RE has me start it 3 days after my LH surge.
I've learned that you need to push for what you think you need. GL.

This makes sense to me!
Of course I have no experience, since no doctor here will test my progesterone. I did take progesterone while pregnant, after I had been bleeding for a week and had a good u/s at 6 weeks. I lasted until 10 weeks and had a natural m/c. They never tested my progesterone (or any other hormones during pregnancy), just started me on it "just in case." Doctors here are incompetent (and my FIL is an OBGYN).
Good luck and let us know what you find out from the Dr.
If you won't be going on bcp during your TTA phase (and therefore still ovulating), you can ask to have your progesterone tested right after ovulation to see what your natural levels are. My clinic says most people start it after the BFP, but if there's a reason to begin after ovulation, they will prescribe it to start then. If you've ever had your progesterone tested in your pregnancy, that can help too - ask your doctor about any prior tests taken, point in the cycle, etc to see if you need to start it right away.
But, don't beat yourself up about losing the pg b/c of the prog. My RE has told me many times that a pregnancy cannot be "saved" b/c of early prog use; it will either succeed or it won't.
I'm sorry you're going through this.
