Because Lori asked and because I love all the colors!
6 Thirsties Size 1 Duo Wraps (Honeydew, Mango, Storm Cloud, Meadow, Ocean Blue and Cool Stripes), 2 Thirsties Size 1 Duo Diapers (Honeydew, Mango), 2 Thirsties hemp inserts, 3 Snappis, 2 Wahmies pail liners (in Periwinkle and Monkey print!), and a Wahmies Regular size wet bag in Blue Dots.
I'm just waiting for my PFs to arrive from Cotton Babies! I was able to score 36 infant sized PFs for about $60 (sale price of $39.60 before shipping). Had I bought them locally, I would have paid $31/dozen (or $93 total) for the exact same thing!
Re: PIP: My Diaper Stash!
love! I got the wraps in honeydew, mango, and cool stripes too (and blackbird, i think it was called)
since there's a chance this baby is actually a girl (we find out in 3 weeks!), we were trying to go gender neutral. I like the blue one you have too (storm cloud, maybe?) but DH said that was too boy-ish - but cool stripes was okay. eh, okay..
i only got 4 covers though...i think that might just be enough? might end up getting another just to be safe.
how did you decide to get the thirsties duos too? did you just want something easier than PF's for someone else to use?
Hey Sarah! The thing with the blue dots all the way to the right of the photo is a wet bag. I just love the fabric!
And I plan to buy a bunch of organic bamboo cloth wipes from an Etsy seller, maybe next month. MH is getting a little nervous about all of my recent purchases.
Hey Sandra! That "storm cloud" color is my absolute favorite color (it was one of our wedding colors)! I would have bought more in that one color, but I thought the other colors were cute, too. If these diapers hold up well enough, I'd like to save them for child #2 (which could be a girl) and I didn't think a bunch of blue diapers would be too much fun for a girl. FWIW, I don't think the ocean blue and storm cloud colors are too boy-ish. I'd put them on a girl, but that's coming from a female whose favorite color is blue.
It seems like most websites recommend 4-6 covers if you'll be washing every other day so I think you should be okay. Besides, if you do run out, you could always do a quick hand wash. We'll see how it goes, but I think we'll be hand washing and hang drying our diaper covers. In case you didn't know, Abby's Lane is having their Thirsties sale starting next week in case you wanted to pick up more and MMB is out of the color you want.
I decided to go with Thirsties because I wanted a velcro closure vs. snaps and many of the diaper covers I saw only came in snaps. Their leg gussets seem pretty effective, too. I thought I'd give the Thirsties Duo Diapers a try, just to see how a pocket diaper option would work for us (I think the PFs will be easier than we think, though). Lori also recommended them for heavy overnight wetters. I know we may not need to worry about that until a bit later, but I thought they'd be nice to have on-hand anyway. The inserts do make them feel really thick, though. I also bought a couple of hemp inserts for added absorption.
Another reason I liked the Duo diaper over other pocket diapers is because the sleeve for the inserts is open on both sides. Supposedly this means you don't need to remove the insert before throwing in the wash. It comes out on its own due the washing machine agitation. No need to touch poo/pee-soaked inserts!
i wanted ocean blue and storm cloud too - especially storm cloud! i love them both. i would totally put either of them on a girl too. we'll see, maybe 4 covers won't be enough and I'll have to get more
i'm thinking of getting some BG 3.0 AIOs too (and maybe some of the Thirsties pockets too, now that you mention it) just to see what they're like...
I love it Nicole, esp the wetbag and the duo prints. I love the prints! they came out after A was born so I only have prints for the size 2 duo wraap
we have the storm cloud and I love it on A
it's more of a purply blue if you ask me. I can take an action shot if you want
for nb's it depends on how often they soil the cover. i had 6 covers but honestly could have gotten away w/4 but i think if you ask christine she thought 4 wasn't enough. but really with a cover if you are ok w/hand washing instead of waiting until laundry day...you can wash it as soon as it gets dirty, hang it up and by the next diaper change (or two) it's dry and ready for use again so 4 is plenty IMO if you can hand wash.

OMG, if we were having a girl, I'd be ALL OVER the girly colors and prints! I would not be able to resist these:
Love all the colors! I also think blue will work for a girl
I don't think it's that gross to touch the inserts (I end up touching pee SOAKED fitteds (w/snaps) since that is what we use overnight), but FWIW the pockets we have (BG one size) are only open on one end. When MIL was babysitting I didn't realize she didn't take the insert out before putting the diap in the pail - I still never knew until I watched her do a couple of diaper changes weeks into her stay b/c for some reason they must always have come out in the wash. Not saying this will happen for everyone - but since I know it works I never remove the inserts before washing.
I also learned that 7th Generation wipes are very durable - she didn't use cloth wipes and just threw the dirty disposable wipes in the pail too. eek. learned they don't dissolve at all and come out really clean. haha.
We had 3 NB covers and 3 of the size 1 covers. THey would work in a pinch if all of the NB were dirty. Many times I hand washed the covers and hung them to dry (which doesn't take too long). I think 4-5 covers would be perfect for the NB stage.
Currently we have 4 covers and could get away with 3... we change the cover each day. We don't need to change it often because it doesn't get soiled at all.
I love Hawaii!

I am so doing this! Why cover up those cute dipes if you don't have to?
