Pediatric Associates of Alexandria

I'm 26w with twins, and we're starting to think about pediatricans for our little beans. My OB/GYN office recommends Pediatric Associates of Alexandria, so I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on them, good or bad. I'm on bedrest, most likely for the remainder of my pregnancy, so I probably won't get a chance to visit the office to check them out ahead of time.

Re: Pediatric Associates of Alexandria

  • I C&P this from a previous reply I wrote about PAA on this board in April:

We go to PAA (Pediatric Assoc of Alexandria) and really like them. They have a good mix of docs and pediatric nurse practitioners, so you can always get in to see someone. They also have really great hours--6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the first hour in the morning (6-7a) is walk in, so if you've been up with a sick kid all night, you can walk in bright and early without an appt. I find their advice nurses very helpful and I've never been made to feel stupid for calling with questions or concerns.

Are there some docs/PNPs that I like better than others? Absolutely, but I think that's the case with any practice you go to. Are they always on time? No, often times they are running late. That being said, we had an 8 a.m. appt today and got called back at 8:02 a.m., so it just depends.

Overall, we are happy with them. Make an appt and go talk to them. They don't charge you and we got to meet with one of the docs when I was pregnant and he really sold us on the place.

I know others (Artslvr, garden123) on this board also go there.

ETA: page me if you have any specific questions that I didn't answer.

  • We go there and really like it, too.  Their office staff is great as are the doctors.  I would definitely recommend the practice.
  • We go there, and while I have nothing to compare it to (because we've always gone there) I highly recommend.  I especially like that we can get same day appts when the kiddos are sick, and also that they have late evening appts (we both work).
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • We go there and like it fine--but we've had nothing but routine visits and a few colds. It's been fine and we've always been treated well and seen quickly.

But as proof that everyone experiences things differently I don't like Dr Hopper :)

  • Ditto Claraj.  FWIW, if your twins end up coming early (i.e. premature), my son was a little premature and they were great.  The nurse who coordinates the RSV/synegis shots (Lori) was fantastic with getting our insurance to pay.

it probably didn't help that my husband AND my son were wearing Red Sox hats and he said "Oh, you probably don't want to know I'm a Yankees fan". Yeah, I didn't, because now I don't trust a word out of your mouth.

Okay, that's not really why i don't like him, but it's part of it :)

LOL. This is actually great to know b/c we received two adorable Red Sox onesies that I can't wait to put on our LO's. I'll remember not to wear them to the dr's. :)

  • We go there and I like it. The doctors are great and I especially like Dr. Hopper and Dr. Kernan. The 6 AM walk in appointments are great. More than once I've had a sick child at 3 AM and have been able to wait a couple hours to go to the walk in hours. It beats having your kid in the ER and probably not being seen for a few hours anyway. Plus, I'm always worried that she would catch something else in the ER!
