We are moving tomorrow from a small 1 bedroom condo to a much larger 4 bedroom house. We have not done much to baby proof around here. Tahlia is mobile, crawling quickly and can pull herself up and walk with assistance of a table, chair, etc. Where do I begin babyproofing the new place. I am a bit overwhelmed!

If she's just crawling, you'll need a doorknob baby-proofer on the basement door (if you have one), a set of cabinet baby-proofers, and a gate or two. We spend hardly any time upstairs, so we got a portable one. If we are downstairs we set it up at the bottom of the stairs so he can't try to climb up, and if we are upstairs we set it up at the top of the stairs so he can't fall down. OH, and you need outlet covers also. All of this you can get at BRU in one trip.

This is what we've done: outlet covers, cabinet door locks (most important IMO), end table corner guards (waste of $$$), crib rail cover, and just moved breakable items off coffee table/end tables.

If you will be using a surge protector anywhere they make boxes you can put them in.

Gates if you have stairs or places she shouldn't go. We have our kitchen gated off because the dog's water is in it.

That is about all we have for now. We need to put our corner protectors on our tables soon. Also, once she can walk you may want to look into things to put on the door handles so she can't open them.

well i would start with clearing off the coffee tables, end tables, and cords that hang down need to be tied up or unplugged and moved. Then outlet covers on all outlets not being used. Vaccume and Mop often. They find the littlest thing on the floor... then right in the mouth. Then i would check out the kitchen. Out kitchen is really small. So DD really cant play in there anyways, so we put the cabinet locks on there. There are 2 kinds. Some you have to drill into your cabinets. So take that into consiteration... If you dont want to do the whole lock thing i would suggest rearanging your cabinets so that what ever she can get into isnt goint to hurt her. Like tupperware on the bottom, along with other "baby friendly" dishes. You might want to get a toilet lock.. unless you can remember to keep the bathroom door closed. Also we needed a baby gate. It was a must. I hope that helped! Good Luck! Ooo... dont forget about sharp corners!

Target sells a kit that I just bought. I believe it was around $7. It is made by safety first and it includes 4 door knob covers, 12 cabinet latches, and 30 outlet protectors. We use a gate to keep her on one side of the house and we have removed all of our picture frames from our tabletops.

instead of locking our cabinets, we moved all dangerous stuff to higher cabinets. we use babygates to the block the kitchen most of the time, but i figure if they want to pull out pots/pans and tupperwear sometimes, that is OK. exploring is healthy.

the outlet covers were a biggie for us. also, keeping the toilet lids closed (or the bathroom doors closed) and making sure there was nothing unstable that they could pull up on.

another big thing for us is keeping small things off the floor since they put everything in their mouths.

DD is on the verge of crawling now, and starting to try and pull up so we're just starting with the baby proofing thing. Right now we have outlet covers, cabinet locks for the kitchen, and baby gates for the stairs (which we're all ready using for the dog!). We're also going to get covers for the corners of our coffee/end tables just because they are a bit sharp. And I'm planning on moving all the breakable things off the tables and shelves and putting them up higher where she can't get them. I'm sure there is probably more I'll think of once we start, but that's what we have for now.
