Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I'm the worst mother in the world!

My 5 week old LO is in his crib crying, he has been crying for 4 hours! He's not hungry, wet/dirty, cold, hot, tired, he doesn't want to be held. He just will not stop crying. So even though it breaks my heart to save my own sanity I had to put him down and walk out to my patio. I've never felt this worthless, not being able to comfort my baby.

  • Good for you for realizing your tipping point and putting baby in a safe place while you take a short break.  Is there anyone you can call to help out?

  • Putting him in the crib while you regain yourself does not make you bad mother. it makes you a good mother.

Take a deep breath, everything will be okay.

  • Do you have a swing or something? You can try that! Or music, try putting any music on so he can hear. Hope that helps.

  • I agree with everyone.  You aren't a bad mom for taking a break, you need to have your sanity in order to be a good mom.  Don't beat yourself up over this.  I hope you have someone you can come help you out.

  • Seriously, you're being a good mom by walking away when you're frustrated. I'm so sorry he's crying so much! Have you tried the stroller? That works a lot for my LO when she's screaming. Usually the bumpier the ride, the better. Good luck! I hope he stops crying soon.

  • ive heard that running the vacuum or static on the tv sometimes calms them down (dont know why). maybe try baby massage? does LO have gas? my LO would get gas around 3-4 wks and just be miserable but doing baby massage and getting the gas out "fixed" her.

good luck- your not a bad mom at all.

  • along the same lines as the vacuum we found that when our daughter got like that the vent over the stove was like magic.  It calmed her down in a matter of seconds.
