DD has a drop side crib. It has not currently been recalled. We intend to buy the same crib, but with two stationary sides for DD2.
My question - should we put the 15 month old in the drop-side, or the newborn? I don't anticipate the NB sleeping in the crib for the first 4-5 months at least, so I'm thinking - give DD1 the stationary side until she's ready for a toddler bed, then use the drop-side for the toddler bed and give the stationary side to the younger sister. The only thing is, DD2 will probably be in the crib for naps. WWYD?
Re: Drop-side crib question
I like this idea. I know it was a different time and everything (not everyone had toddler beds!) but my parents just got tired of having the crib around and moved me to a twin bed when I was about 18 months. My mom said that my arms and legs might hang off but most of me would be curled up in a corner and I never fell out until I had chicken pox and my eyes crusted over. I was 7 by then.

I was going to suggest a toddler bed too. I moved #1 just after 18 months and he did really well. he wasn't climbing out or anything, but I did not want to buy two cribs when #2 came along.

Why not just put your 15 mo crib mattress on the floor. This is becoming quite popular because then the bed is at the right height for your LO and allows them to be more self sufficient or some such thing. I forgot what method it is but it's widely used and quite progressive.
edit: it's the Montessori approach.
