More not great NT scan news :(

I just spoke with the nurse and she said the bloodwork showed the proteins for downs syndrome. In laymans terms she said 10% chance. She said the thickness was high for the sonographer at 1.9 and 2.0. However, she thinks the obvious nose bones and baby measuring ahead are good signs. It's just really upsetting. I go back for more bloodwork at 14 weeks and a detailed scan at 17 weeks. I don't know who to talk to about this whole thing, but am trying to stay positive.

I'm sorry you got some disconcerting news but try to stay calm until you can have the more advanced tests.  I'll definitely be thinking of you and hoping for the best.

  • I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.  Early tests though have proven to provide false "positives" a lot in the past.  A friend of mine (who is pg with #4) ALWAYS declines early testing because 1) the accuracy isn't always the best and 2) they check for everything at your big u/s anyway.

Don't worry (easier said than done, I know).  No matter what happens your baby will bring you so much joy and love you won't know what to do with yourself!!!!!

  • Easier said than done, but try to stay positive.  I hope things will have turned around by your next appt.

  • Sorry to hear!  But like PP has said, false positives are very common.  Will be hoping for the best for your 14 week bloodwork :)
  • Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts. I am going to try to let it go and enjoy my early weekend. DH is extremely positive about it all and thinks the results aren't all their cracked up to be. Thanks for letting me vent my fears about this.

  • dont worry too much...the same thing happenned to my gf and it was a false positive. there are many false positives with that test.
  • I'm sorry you didn't have a good scan.  I just wanted to give you some hope - we had a 50% chance of the babies having chromosomal abnormalities (Down Syndrome or worse) and we did the CVS testing.  I got the results this afternoon: normal!!!  We were a wreck, but good news can come out of it.

You have a good attitude - just stay positive and take each day as it comes.  Good luck with your follow-ups! You'll be in my prayers.

  • My OB cautioned me to strongly consider whether I wanted to do the first tri screen or not due to the extermely high false positive rates.  So, keep that in mind and try to relax this weekend.  Best of luck at the follow up visits.

    This.

But I will be praying for you guys and will keep you guys in my thoughts. My ultrasound tech was so thankful I was declining this time around bc she said she sees way too many false positives. So I will hope that is your case.

  • I am sorry you are having to deal with these uncertain results. I can't imagine what you are going through, but you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Sorry you didn't get the best news at your scan Sad Try to stay as positive as you can! Like pp said, those tests give a lot of false positives, so hopefully that's the case with your LO. I'll be thinking of you!

  • My little sister was in your shoes a couple weeks ago.  Her blood work showed the proteins for downs and the doc said she had a 1 in 7 chance.  She had to do an amnio.  Waiting for results was hard, but everything came back fine.  Try not to think negatively until you know anything for sure.  I know it's nearly impossible, but (as my sister's experience shows) everything can be perfectly fine in the end.  GL!

  • I'll be thinking positive thoughts and will say a prayer for your LO.  Easier said than done, I know, but I hope you can stay calm and think positively.  These tests can be so scary.

  • I know exactly how you feel! My results came back that I am at risk for Down Syndrome too! Mine weren't at 10% but just hearing those words frightens you. My friends keep telling me that there are too many false positives and to forget I ever had that test done!!! Again, easier said then done. What week did you have your NT scan? On a positive note...at least your doctor is taking action and doing more blood work at week 14. My doctor called me during 12 w 2 days with the results and scheduled me for 17w 3d for our next appointment!!!!!! I want answers with my ultrasound and I want more blood work done!!!  Keep me posted! I will keep you and the baby in my prayers!!!
  • I am sorry your having to go thru this, try and stay positive and dont forget that there is a high rate of false positives. I ll keep my fingers crossed for you and sending T&P your way, hope your next appointment goes better. ::hugs::

  • So sorry you're dealing with this.  The same thing happened to my stepbrother's wife, and their baby looked just fine when they did the further testing, so I hope that's what happens with you!
