I am having my wisdom teeth pulled Monday

Please hold me and tell me it will be ok.

But seriously

I'm scared..... that is why I have put it off for so many years, but I am biting the bullet. At least I will be knocked out for it.

Tell me straight, how bad will it be??

  • Are you getting knocked out for it? It wasn't so painful when I had mine done, but it was a bloody mess.

My mom put wet tea bags on my sockets. I did swell up a bit and bruise too.

  • I got knocked out for mine, it was a piece of cake.

One word of advice, have a bag or something in the car. When MH was driving me home, we stopped at Walgreens for my pain meds. Well, I started to feel icky because of the meds they gave me, and I puked. Thankfully, I had a bag to catch it.

Oh and lots of ice packs.

  • I think everyone is going to have a different answer. But you asked for honest so I will be.

It was TERRIBLE. All 4 of mine were impacted and I was put under. I swelled up so bad and every time I sat up, stood up, etc I would throw up, which, not fun when your mouth is full of stitches.

I know of some people who are fine in 2 days, it took me a good week or week and a half before I could go back to work and handle not being in bed with painkillers.

     Good luck!

  • My first go 'round, I was 25 and had the bottom 2 done.  I was totally knocked out and got really good pain meds for after.  It wasn't too bad.  The swelling wasn't too bad either, and he had to break one into pieces to get it out.

The second go 'round, I was 32, and attempted to have the top 2 removed.  I had "twilight sedation" which wasn't enough for me, and I remember the entire thing.  He was seriously shaking my head back and forth.  The top right never came out.  He sewed me back up, and I got great pain meds.  Then I got home, it got swollen like crazy, and then infected.  The side which the tooth never came out of got infected.  I was on meds for over a week and it took a solid two weeks for the swelling to go down.
