Are floor-length drapes ok to have in the nursery?

Hi! What's the scoop on curtains and safety? Is it ok to have floor-length drapes in the nursery? Originally I was thinking of roman shades (of course, you have to watch the cords on those, right?) but yesterday I saw some really cute drapes. Hmm...what are you guys doing?

  • We're planning on floor length curtains in the nursery to help the room look bigger.  We're securing the fabric to the rods via curtain clips, so that if pulled, only the curtain comes down, not the rod.

  • We started out with them but had to take them down when he started moving around... he kept trying to pull up on them and I was afraid he would pull the rod down. Clips are a good idea but even that makes me nervous unless they are big enough not to be a choking hazard.  I've seen some that could have easily fit in babies mouth and I figure what good is it to only babyproof halfway?  We just went with a valance after we took those down.

  • we got cordless shades in home depot- they will cut them to size for you . We are also going to do full length sheers but we are going to put those holdbacks on them so they can be tucked out of the way
  • I think we're going to go with floor length until he's mobile and pulling himself into a standing position. Then I'll hem them to window length if needed.

Obv you aren't going to leave LO on the floor in his/her room without supervision at all times, but the risk is there I suppose. Personally I'm more concerned about the risk posed by the roman shades, so we'll be changing those out.
