Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How to change Frog style sleeping...

We went to a neurological development center as our pedi suggested.

Turns out DD is doing great, but she still needs to have better skills and we need more exercises for her, but one of the concerns is that her muscle tone in her legs is too strong (she loves being standing or sitting) and sleeping like this, with open legs, like a frog.(sorry not in pic)

and then we were told that this position is not good for baby, because of the pressure in her shoulders, so we need to make her sleep on her side and with hands close together in front of her chest so that she don't have issues later on crawling Surprise

she seems to be confortable and when we lay her on her side she moves to this position again..

has anyone had experience on this??

Re: How to change Frog style sleeping...

  • I have never heard this! DS sleeps like this all the time...in fact he is napping like that now. However when I was concerend with his head getting flat in the back we would lay him on his side to sleep. We used a sleep positioner that way he couldnt roll back over

  • Our DS is the same way.  He was actually born with really strong legs (I felt them in my ribs prior to birth, so I know).  I just assumed that it was one of those things that varies in babies.  He also sleeps that way. Huh?

Keep us updated on what you find.  I'm sorry I'm no help, but I didn't realize that could be a developmental issue.  Our pedi has never mentioned it but she hasn't seen him since he was 2 months.  We have his 4 month appointment next week.

  • DD sleeps this way too.  Sometimes her arms are straight out.

We thought the same thing with DD, she just streches and keeps her legs hard, like when you try to fold her legs bending her knees she puts resistance on it..(hope I'm explaining myself here) we thought it was funny, because she does it a lot when changing diapers...

we were told that at this stage is not good because they get used to have their legs in that position and then they are not confortable with the knees on the floor bended (they prefer them straight) and they are lazy to crawl.. and same happens with the hands, so we need to make exercises to make her have them crossed in the chest..

it made sense to us.. but I'm doing research as well

DS sleeps like that all the time. Since he only likes to sleep on one side of his head, I prop him to the other side with a blanket underneath. But that's only for his naps when I am watching closely.

Jolaine83 - what type of jumper is that in your siggy? I love the colors!

I'm sorry, but that just sounds silly. Too lazy to crawl?

I asked the pediatrician I work with, and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. She said the froggy style sleeping position is perfectly normal.

Just my 2c for your research. I hope you find some consensus.

I'm glad you said this. This is the second piece of weird developmental issues info I have heard in the past 2 days. Thank goodness my FIL is a neurologist so we can call and get the scoop from him.

It's actually an old evenflo ultra exersaucer.  We've got this wonderful consignment shop in town that is just for baby stuff and maternity stuff.  I did a search to see if they still sell it, but it's kind of hit or miss.  It looks like it's only sold by old owners now.
