Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Totally distraught

Both O and I are completely at wit's end right now.  He has diaper rash, pretty badly, right around his butt hole.  We are doing everything we can to make it better, using creme, cleaning and (trying) to allow adequate time for him to dry before we put him in another diaper.  Every diaper change is full of full-on screaming and crying.  He is hysterical, which really unnerves me.  I end up crying, too.  I just feel like I am at the end of my rope.  I can't make it better, and even putting him on his changing pad right now starts the crying.  I feel like a failure.  I just want my happy baby back.

  • Have you tried Triple Paste? Go out and get it now if you can. I really think you'll see improvement after one application- seriously. The stuff is expensive and so worth every penny.

  • You could try using cloth diapers too- rashes are very rare in cd wearing babies.
  • when we took our baby home from the hospital she had a rash sooo bad on her butt it was actually bleeding (very upset with the hospital..but anyways!) I understand what your going through- she would cry/scream so bad it made me want to cry because of how much pain she was in.  they made special butt paste for her which consisted of desitin & a&d we slathered that on & changed her diaper as soon as we knew she went..we also let her just hang out without a diaper to let the air hit it as much as we could.  it was about 3-4 days before it completely went away, but it did get better.  the triple paste works great too.. good luck!

  • My DS was allergic to every type of diaper but huggies, if you put him in anything he would break out in crazy bad diaper rashes that refused to clear. So try chaging diapers or use cloth diapers.

  • Little O was such a peanut that he didn't fit into his cloth diapers until yesterday.  So we just switched him from disposables and he's in cloth now.  The only problem with this is that I am still BRAND new at folding his prefolds, so it takes me longer, and prolongs the painful experience for both of us.  DH thinks that the rash is caused by O's wipes, so we have cut those out too and are just cleaning with a soft washcloth and CA Baby calming spray.  I hope hope hope this works!

  • Call you dr. They can prescribe a diaper rash cream with a topical numbing medication in it.
  • I don't know if you have already seen the doctor but just in case you haven't babies can get a diaper rash caused by yeast and if that is the case the doctor might have you use lotrimin (like for athletes feet) to clear up the rash.  My DD had a rash that we couldn't get rid of and it was really painful so we took her in and this was the problem and it cleared right up.  So if you can't get anything else to work take him to the pedi.
