Anyone who has used Amoxicillin

I can't get a call into my pedi's office til this evening so help me here ladies.

My son has his third ear infection and was put on Amoxicillin. I looked at the bottle and its 250mg strength and he's supposed to get a full tea spoon 3 times a day. Something feels off to me. I don't have his older bottles but I think they were only 125mg. I think she may have written it wrong and I don't want to over dose him on it.

If your LO has used Amoxicillin can you tell me what potency and how much /how often they took it? I've been giving him half a tea spoon until I can get a hold of my pedi.

He took 5 ml (1 tsp) 2x/day. But he was also 5 mos at that time.

I'm sure they dose by body weight. It sounds right to me. Can you call your pharmacist in the meantime and ask them?

Do you remember what his dosage was? if its 125 then it sounds right but 250 seems high. I did ask the pharmacist.. actually the pharmacist asked ME if it was right because it seemed high to him too.

If the pharmacist thought it sounded high I would do what you have been until you get a hold of the pedi. Its better to give less than to over dose your LO, besides you have to be careful with any kind of penicillin, I took amoxicillin for several years as a child and then all of a sudden I was allergic.
