Anyone else giving their LO a little water?

My pedi told me I could give her 1-2oz of water a day since it's been so hot and humid here. So I give her about an ounce if we're out and about. Anyone else do this?

  • Hm..I heard you can give then water if they seem constipated..I try to keep DD out of the heat..today was ridiculous and we were at the mall! DD was so fussy due to the heat.. I'll have to ask my pedi..I assume it would be okay if LO was sweating and in between feedings

  • My LC told me specifically not to give him water, but I've never asked my pedi about it.

  • Just be careful to follow your pedi's directions, as giving too much water can be very dangerous to little ones. FWIW, I live in Vegas where the heat is extreme and I never gave my DD water until she was 6 months old. Formula or breast milk should be enough to keep them hydrated.

  • I haven't tried it yet, but my pedi also suggested trying that because my son was eating so much. She said he could sometimes be thirsty with the heat.
  • I am EBF and my pedi told me no water until at leats 4 months, that breast milk is enough. But we are in WI where it rarely gets to be TOO hot.

  • Our doctor said no water at all until 4-6 months, even when DS hadn't pooped in 36 hours they suggested we wait the night and if he didn't poop by morning then we should give him 1-2 tablespoons of water after his first morning feeding but he pooped by morning so I didn't give him any.
