::Anyone have Irritable Uterus?::

I have been on bed rest for 8 weeks and have irritable uterus, but I find info on the internet doesn't really reflect what I have. My contractions aren't Braxton Hicks, I have A contraction that can last hours and hours. Anyone experience anything like this?

Re: ::Anyone have Irritable Uterus?::

  • Yes, me, I have it and it is so uncomfortable--and painful at times. I too am on bed rest--at the hospital though--so they monitor them a lot. Last night I was contracting every minute for three hours and the pain was extreme. (Reminded me of when I was having my dd.)I have had the contractions stopped with taking procardia around the clock and with terbutaline shots. The procardia lessens the irritability but does not completlely make them go away. The terb shots make me feel so strange and jittery. I am sorry you are dealing with this too. so annoying.

  • See, I don't get monitored. Mine get tight and thats it. Its like one big contraction, for hours and then it lets up. I just worry about the baby...which maybe at this point is ridic b/c its been 8 weeks now and the baby has been fine this whole time.

    Is your tummy small too? I am carrying small, but my fundus measurements are "normal". To me, it almost feels more like my ab muscles don't want to stretch out anymore.

  • I don't know if you have seen this website, if you have sorry for trying again... https://www.irritable-uterus.com/

    I have an irritable uterus and have been in PTL since 17 wks. I am 22 wks now. At 12 wks I had a preventative cerclage placed and at 15 wks (which is early) started 17p shots which aren't working. At 17 wks i  took indocin for 48 hrs which stopped contractions but as soon as I did my 48hrs contractions came back so now I"m on Procardia and albuterol. The other night I had a 3 hour contractions. Boy was that fun! Even though I take 2 meds I still have contractions. Sorry you are dealing with this too. Its not fun!

  • That is the only website I have found to be helpful. Wish there was more info out there.

    Sorry to hear your situation! Glad you at at 22 weeks though!

  • I was told i have irritable uterus on the 5th....my doc doesn't want to do any monitoring as my cervix still felt long thick and closed (my internal os was closed, external dilated to 1)....i'm switching docs and will see my new doc on the 25th

    fyi the nurse at the hospital was very sweet and told  me with how things looked witht he contractions and my cervix that she thought that really we weren't in any danger of PTL which i was happy about..but i'd still feel better being monitored..just trying to make it to week 24 and will start feeling better about it after that ( granted i want to keep him in till at least 37)

  • Thanks! Usually irritable uterus happens in 3rd tri but mine has been irritable the whole time. And depending on how far along you are depends on the treatment. Thankfully my dr's have been very agressive with me.

    Even that website says there isn't much info or studies about irritable uterus.

  • Me - but I don't really know much about it other than belly is tight and I am unconfortable a lot of the time. : (  Dr doesn't seem concerned with it though as once I was put on bedrest my PTL symptoms did not advance (no more shortening/effacing). (I don't take any meds).

    I do but I don't feel my contractions. Sometimes I wonder if I'm just dense. I'm on terb pills and P17. I was monitored for a day but that's it. I have bi-weekly appointments to check my cervix and I'm on modified bed rest.
  • I don't like that we all have this condition, but its nice to feel not alone!
