Hematologist appt update

I went back to see the hematologist today, & my platelets have not dropped since my OB took blood 2 weeks ago, which is good news.  He wants my OB to check my blood again in 2 weeks, & then weekly until I deliver.  If the platelets stay the same (he's hoping they have plateaued), there will be no need for intervention.  So, overall, it's good news so far.  Thanks for the vibes!

Re: Hematologist appt update

  • Great news, Dani!  I'll send some more ::vibes:: that your platelets will stay the same up to your delivery!

  • Good news!  I have a (stupid) question though - what do the low platelets mean?  And do they know what is causing the issue?
  • Yay!  Let's hope that they stay this way until Baby G arrives!
  • Glad you had some good news! **vibes** that they stay where they are (or go up!)

Platelets are the part of your blood that help your blood to clot.  So, if platelets are low, you can have easy bruising, bleeding, & trouble stopping bleeding.  If platelets drop below 100,000, anesthesiologists typically do not want to give an epidural due to risk of side effect.  Mine are at 116,000 right now (they started at 190,000).  It happens in 7-8% of pregnancies, & sometimes there is no reason for it (other times it can be preeclampsia or HELPP syndrome, but I do not have either of those).  So, it's just unexplained at this point.

  • That's great! Lots more :::vibes::: that they stay up until you have baby G!
    Anniversary
  • I'm glad everything is okay!
  • Great news!!

    *Vibes* they stay the same.

Thanks for clarifying!  Fingers crossed that they stay the same or go up!
