Texas Babies

Question for military mamas

Hi ladies!  My sister's husband was just transferred to Ft. Sam.  He's being deployed August 1, and she's due with their fourth (!) baby on August 23.  She doesn't know anyone in the area and is worried about what she's going to do with her kids when she goes into labor.

If we knew exactly when she was going to deliver, a family member would come out and be with her.  None of us can come out for several weeks and stay until she has a baby.  I wish one of us could, but it's just not possible.

So...does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this dilemma?  Anyone know a babysitter who can be on call at all hours?  My sister is really stressed out about it and I'd love to give her some ideas.

Re: Question for military mamas

  • My husband is army over at BAMC (surgical resident). Has she gotten in touch with anyone at the hospital? I know they specifically ask if your husband is going to be deployed while you are pregnant and I'm 99.99% sure there are programs set up so she can get coverage for her kids and a doula to be there with her during the delivery.

She should call the OB Clinic and ask to speak with the nurse educator. She will be able to point her in the right direction.
