Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Parents of babies who have/had acid reflux

DS's pediatrician told us that a lot of babies outgrow it between 4-6 months. DS still needs one out of the two doses that have been prescribed for him. How many of your LOs have outgrown it? Or do they still struggle with it over 6 months?

  • We tried to take him off the Zantac, and it was an epic failure.  Back on it now... ped says we'll talk about it again when he's a year old.

  • We took him off Zantac around 4 months.  He was still spitting up a ton at that time though.  The spit up has hugely tapered off within the last month and a half or so.  As in he no longer wears a bib full time, which I consider a giant accomplishment.

  • We increased DD's Prevacid at 6.5 months and again at 7.5 months as she has grown out of the previous doses.  There is no end in sight for us.

  • DS has been off of his medication for 6 weeks now and his symptoms are no longer present.
  • i stopped giving him meds about 4 months. this last month (8mo) he has not vomited once, but still spits up a little on occasion, it usually is a while after he has eaten, not immediately after like the vomit. so yes it is getting a lot better.
  • I took DS off his medication a month ago. The medication seemed to make him spit up even more. He still spits up but it doesn't seem painful to him now. I was really hoping he'd have grown out of reflux by now but no such luck.

  • DS's reflux has gotten much better than it was, but still does not seem like it will end any time soon. His pediatrician has said it should improve when DS starts solids, when he starts sitting up, etc., but no end in sight. It is very frustrating, especially when the dr is trying to get him off Zantac. He asked us to take him off the medicine before but it was awful and I put him right back on it, DS was clearly in pain and screaming out, along with the usual constant spitting up. The dr called in another refill for his presctiption but only to fill it one time. We don't see the dr again until 9 months (2 moths away and his prescription usually lasts about a month) so I will be calling for another refill to be called in. I feel like the doctor doesn't really see how bad his reflux is and just wants him off the meds because he "shouldn't" need them anymore.. well he does.. Sorry, we are just ready for the reflux to be in the past!
