It's been a fun morning (NBR)

I got to call around the state of Kentucky to find out information on my husbands arrest for public intoxication back in 2006 (before I knew him ;))...he's applying for citizenship and needs to disclose everything...he forgot what city and county he was arrested in...it's a good thing I love him and didn't know him then...his boss was nicer to bail him out than I would have been ;)

  • Being the party girl that I was. While i was a Senior in college (20), I got arrested for "possession". I was at a house party, we were all under 21 and got busted for having a keg.

Long story short, when I was getting naturalized I was freaking out because i thought I would get deported and they would not allow me to get my citizenship. I had my paperwork associated with the incident in case they asked me but it never came up. I had written on my application but the officer handling my interview said I had a clean record. I thought it was odd but I was happy it wasn't a big deal for them.

  • Too funy! I went through the whole greencard thing when DH and I got married. They tell you that you have to disclose everything but when I told her I had an unpaid parking ticket in Oregon from 10 years back that I couldn't trace she didn't care. Not an ounce. So don't go to too much trouble. She told us in the interview she was just looking for honesty and she respected that I spoke up.

If you have any Q's about the process (and interview) p-mail me. I know it's hard to get through to INS for answers. Our was SO easy and straight forward. I was approved same day and got my card a week later.

  • He's had a green card since 2005, so he's just applying for naturalization now...he has an attorney to make sure we do everything by the book...

He had never had an issue with the arrest until this past December...we were coming home from Mexico and the immigration officer asked if he had ever been arrested for a DUI - he said "No" - which is true...the officer read it wrong and sent him to the "back room" to be questioned further...

Other than two speeding tickets (also in 2006) he's been a fine member of society, so I'm not too worried ;)  He knows jail would be his best option if he got into trouble again ;)
