South Shore Hospital- Weymouth

Hi! I was curious as to whether anyone is planning to deliver or has previously delivered @ SSH in Weymouth? I'm pregnant w/ my first and will be delivering there come July and was looking for any kind of information regarding that hospital. Thanks!

Re: South Shore Hospital- Weymouth

  • Hi! I am delivering there in August with my 1st as well, I would suggest going on a hospital tour to get a lay of the land.  If you check out their website, you can call and book an appointment.

  • My sister delivered there and she loved it.  I live an hour away and she still wanted me to use that hospital.

  • one of my best friends from HS is a L&D nurse there.  I am on the n.shore so I didn't deliver there but I have heard awesome things about them.

  • Thanks! I didn't realize that you could book an appointment just to tour the hospital, i assumed that you had to take childbirth classes there in order to do that. I'll have to check that out!

  • We delivered there in Sept, and will be delivering there again with #2 this Nov/Dec. I absolutely loved my experience! The nurses were awesome, I was told the women at the visiting desk were super friendly/nice, the rooms were great, food as good as hospital food gets.

A few things to know ahead of time... 1) DH doesn't eat free, so order extra when you can so you can share and he doesn't have to go to the caf. and pay. 2) The intercom for is built into the bed, so every time a nurse is paged, you hear it... doesn't happen during the night, but can get annoying during the day, and there is no way to lower the volume. 3) They permit cell phone usage if you get service... nobody that visited us could get service. Plan on using the room phone.

    GL!!!

  • Laubeth87 - I'm planning on delivering there in Sept. I have four girlfriends who have delivered 8 babies there (total) and they've all had great experiences. SSH has very good website - they've got all kinds of info on there from the doctors, their neonatal unit, as well as tours and classes offered.

  • Had my first there in 2005, and my second earlier this month.  I live 5 minutes from another hospital and friends kept asking why I was going all the way back to Weymouth for my 2nd!   Both deliveries were great experiences. Everyone was so nice and helpful - nurses, volunteers, food service, cleaning staff, lactation consultants, etc.

Someone posted about the cell phone use - I also had a problem using mine unless I was at the window, but MIL was able to use her phone anywhere.  A nurse told me the hospital has a plan w/Verizon, so people w/Verizon phones can get service (which is what MIL has).  Also - you might want to bring an ipod/speakers (or something like that) if you want music.  There are no CD players in the rooms

  • I'll be delivering there in August too.  My best friend and one of my sisters delivered there recently and they loved it.  One of the biggest perks they said was that no one could come right to their room without permission.  They gave the desk nurses a list of who was and was not allowed and the desk would call whenever anyone showed up.  Hooray for privacy!
  • I will be delivering there in July with my first.  We did sign up for one of their classes so will tour the hospital at that time.

I have heard GREAT things about SSH Maternity Ward - so am comfortable and happy to deliver there!

  • Hi Everyone, I usually don't post on this website (love whattoexpect.com)- but would love to meet some other mom's in the area.  I will be delivering my first at SSH in August.  I have heard great things about the hospital and feel really good about my decision.

Has anyone taken any of the classes there before? Wondering which are worth the time and money.  Thanks, Court

  • Hi, I just delivered there 2.5 weeks ago and it was a great experience.  We did not tour the hospital but took both the infant care class and breastfeeding class there prior.  Nurses were all great and happy to help or let you be if you prefer.  We met with the latation consultant and even got measure for a nursing bra there.  There is all sorts of support available after as well like the daily lactation group which is free.  I would not hesitate to have a second baby there if and/when we do.

  • that's where I delivered and it was pretty good. That's the only place my OB office will deliver

  • I delivered there in April and had a great experience.  As with any hospital, some of the nurses weren't the best.  When I originally went in I was put into a crappy room (the isolation room, which they apparently hardly ever use) and had a horrible nurse.  but luckily the shifts changed over, and I had a wonderful nurse the rest of the day and she changed me to a much nicer room.  She was amazing and my birth went exactly as I wanted it to.  Most of the nurses in maternity were good too, again there's a couple that weren't so great.  The food was pretty good, the only thing I didn't like was that in maternity your meals came up on their schedule rather than you being able to order it whenever you wanted it.

I also took the childbirth class before hand.  I kind of wish that I hadn't spent the money on it because I had done so much reading on my own.  I also worked at WIC so had a lot of education on child birth and bf through them.  My husband and I had read the bradley  method book and done some practice with that (which we used for the birth and my husband was amazing because of it!) so we had all the information that we needed from that.  I was interested in a completely natural childbirth and exclusive bf, and the class wasn't as geared toward that.

    good luck!!
