3rd Trimester

For those of you who have done if before or already!

Hi Ladies,

I'm just sitting around, waiting for the big day. We pretty much have all the "stuff" we need for LO but now I'm wondering if there's anything in your opinion you think I should be doing to prepare. I'm talking about kegels or squats or perneal massages...all those books are so overwhelming, I'd rather hear from you, what helped prepare you for labor and/or the birth of your first.

Thank you!

  • Get a jump on reading some of your books regarding babies and their sleep cycles those first couple of months. Once you're in newborn sleep-deprivation hell, the last thing you're going to want to do is read.  Also, go to a movie, get a pedi, sit in a bookshop and enjoy a coffee drink and relax; do things that'll be tough to do in a couple of weeks with a newborn!

  • My Gaiam prenatal yoga DVD with Shiva Rea helped alot with pushing the baby out.

I agree. "Happiest baby on the block" may be beneficial for you to read and it's a quick read. Other than that, sleep. Seriously you can't sleep too much.
  • Great suggestions above!  I actually didn't really do any of that, but I am sure it can't hurt, just don't overwhelm yourself with all of it.  Maybe have a couple of freezer meals handy for your DH to throw in the oven or stove top.  But Ditto on the pedi and mani, take it easy and enjoy yourself.=-)
  • Go on a date. Or several. Definitely go for that mani/pedi.  Sure you can get out with kids, but it involves sitters, arranging a time, worrying about leaving bottles, getting home on time, etc.

Enjoy the last few days of YOU, and of you and DH as a couple.

I agree with the reading some stuff. Things like how to soothe a baby (definitely ditto the Happiest baby on the block!!), what to expect the first few weeks, sleep cycles, etc will come in handy.

  • I agree with the recommendation to pampering and alone time.  Those things will feel dreamy after a while.

So, put the pregnancy books aside, go out to eat, do something fun.

Also, watch a birth video or something like that.  Somehow that always help me get in the right mental frame of mind.  The other thing I do when I'm lying in bed waiting to fall asleep is picture the birth.  Imagine the baby dropping down and coming out.  Kind of mentally get in the groove.

I've never been good about kegels and never done the perineum stretches, so no input there.  Good luck!
