moms who use cloth diapers

What type of cloth diapers do you use?

I am looking to switch to something else.  We use prefolds and covers trifold style, but now my baby is moving all over the place and starting to sleep through the night which means more cover changes.  I would like to try a different system, but I am not sure what.

  • I obviously haven't started using them yet (unless you count the one time I tried one on an unhappy cat :) but the Eco-Friendly Family board has been a great place for me to lurk and get info about what other people like.  I have also checked out the ratings on diaperpin.com a lot.  DoubleM is putting together a c/d class later in the month too with the owner of Punkernoodle Baby- you should come to it and quiz the pro! :)

  • Have you tried a different fold? I prefer the bikini twist fold with a snappi. I would try to troubleshoot before you make an investment into more CD's. I have used many pocket styles. GumGenius one size were a favorite until M grew out of them. That's when I found KCK Ones (try eBay). They still fit for bedtime and she's been potty trained for a year and a half.

  • I agree that you should try some different folds. There are some places online that have tutorials on different folds. You can also add an insert to the night time diaper to absorb.

That said, we use Bum Genius.

  • We use Kissaluvs fitteds (with Bummis covers), Thirsties (fitteds and covers), and Sassy Pants Baby pockets.

I love MrsTie's suggestion of going to the class/party at Punkerdoodle. That might be really helpful!

  • We use BumGenius and we love them. They fit really well and with double inserts they work great overnight (12 hours). We did recently have some leakage and odor issues, but that can happen after months of use. We followed the stripping instructions we found online and everything is back to normal. :)

I'm in the same boat as MSTie24 - I've used them on other people's babies but it's going to take a lot of research and trial and error when it comes to our own little sprout.  Let me know if you want to come to the class - so far, location is TBD depending on how many people there are.  It's tentatively set for June 30th at 7 p.m. and is $20/single or $30/couple.

  • I really like my Smartipants CDs.  They're similar to Bum Genius, but cheaper and made in the US.

  • We use the Flips.  I've been happy with them so far, especially the price.  I started out with two day-packs (4 covers and 12 inserts) for only $100.  They are a one size system with flaps instead of a pocket.  I've had no leaks so far.
