My kid sucks at tummy time

I hate doing it with her because she gets so frustrated. I put her on the floor, and she stays face down. She'll occasionally make a half-assed attempt to lift her head, but then decide that it's too much effort and face plants into the blanket. It makes me nervous, so I always end up flipping her back sooner than I should.

Even when I put her on the Boppy, she wiggles down to bury her face in it. At this point, I have to believe she's mocking me.

  • I hear you! My LO spends all of her tummy time eating the playmat or her boppy........

Same here. He hates tummy time. Mind you, he will hold his head up when held but when I put him on his tummy he won't. It is frustrating as hell

  • Sometimes Brylee gets that way. I think she does it when she really does not want tummy time.

And I have to say, I just watched I love you, Man...your siggy pic almost made me shoot diet coke out my nose since I know that scene now, lol.

I could have written this post - word for word

  • Mine love sleeping on their bellies so they typically turn tummy time into nap time.  But, earlier today, I heard one of them fussing, looked at the playmats, and Grant had his arms straight, with his head up, looking straight at me.  I had no idea he could do anything like that.

  • My kid hates it as well!

She refuses to pick her head up unless she's being held upright or unless she's on my chest and even then it's a struggle to get her to do it.

I don't know what to do to encourage her to strengthen her neck....any suggestions??

  • thank you for this post. first time i laughed out loud in weeks.  same issues here lol
  • My son also hates tummy time, but I find that naked tummy time goes much better.  He absolutely loves being naked, so I'll lay down a waterproof pad and lay him on his tummy.  Of course, the first time I did this he rolled over and peed everywhere because I wasn't fast enough with the blanket I had ready (I thought I was prepared, but I was just too slow).  Naked tummy time lasts about 5 minutes for us and clothed tummy time only lasts about 2-3 minutes.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • I'm terrible, my LO HATES it also, and I dont really force it. I try on her playmant, but after one minute she starts to fuss, then I will try using her boppy then she still just fusses. She loves sitting in her bumpo and on our laps. So I figure she get a lot of neck strengthening through that.  She can lift her head and look around when on belly.  I wont stress too much about it yet :)
