not necessarily a bad idea. some of the beaches are closed to swimming, but you can still walk on the beach, etc. as far as the smell, I have been in both gulf shores and orange beach and have yet to smell ANYTHING.
I think people have a misconception about what "the oil" will be like. it's not like one huge sheet that will just envelop the entire beach - it's just patches that will be cleaned up ASAP. I'm not trying to downplay the severity of the oil leak, but I'm tired of people being dramatic and not giving facts (not on this board).
I would definitely still go. So many businesses are going to be hurt by BP's mess and the only way to help is to support the tourism down there. Even though you won't be able to swim in the gulf, you can still enjoy all that there is to offer. Delicious restaurants, wonderful shops, a great atmosphere. Not to mention you can still enjoy all that a condo has to offer (and some have fabulous pools). It seems that you can also still walk on the sand, just not right up by the water, but like Bethany said..they are constantly cleaning.
I'm glad to hear this - we have a trip planned in early August and we're SICK at the thought of cancelling. We generally stay on the Bay and very rarely go to the actual beach anyway.
Bethany, I am so glad you posted that. We've been going back and forth with canceling our vacation, simply because of the fumes alone. I was scared for Gabriel to breathe all of that in, and so many reports are saying it's like being at a gas station! I think the media is blowing some stuff a little out of proportion...
Re: thinkin gof a vaction in gulf chores...bad idea because of oil?
