Pregnant after a Loss

Friend told me about an interesting statistic(CP)...

She knew I about our TTC journey and when we got pregnant, she was the only one you thought we were having a boy. I was talking to her and asked her what made her think we were having a boy. She said its because studies have shown that couple who use OPKs and timing are more likely to conceive a boy. When I thought about it, it could make sense based on the whole timing for a girl or boy theory. So I thought I would see if this board supports that...

  • It's called the Shettles Method.  The thought is that sperm carrying the Y chromosome swim faster and die sooner.  If you have sex closer to ovulation the idea is that you're more likely to conceive a boy.  Conversely, sperm carrying an X chromosome swim slower and can live up to 5 days.  If you have sex quite some time before ovulation X sperm can live longer.  All of this is theory.

I am having b/g twins....so for me personally....that theory did not clearly work.  :)

  • Thanks! I couldn't think of what it was called. I always thought and was taught in school that it really doesn't work all that well. She works in an OB office and so she thinks it may actually work based on her pts.

  • I think there's some truth to the Shettles method, but I don't think that just using OPKs etc will make you have a boy. Most of us that did chart were probably having sex on our O date to have the best chance of conception, so if we all have boys then maybe that would be why. But I don't think that holds true for everyone, obvs.

  • I wonder about this...we're team green, so I don't know!
  • I was convinced we were having a boy because of this theory! I charted, temped, and opk's. It made sense so needless to say, I was shocked when it was a girl!
