Thea Elisabeth (pronounced Tay-uh).
We might play with some of the alternate spellings to help her not have to correct the thee-uh vs tay-uh pronunciations but other then that I am sold!
Plus - It means Gift of God - which plays back to a LM Montgomery story (if anyone remembers other name posts - I really wanted to include my favorite childhood authors somehow).
It is 4 letters, which I have a weird superstition about.
And, the best part - it is the Greek Goddess of Light which plays right into my other kids names (which are also 4 letters)...
Luke - bringer of Light
Ella - Light.

i think it's really lovely. don't worry too much about the pronunciation... it happens to me all the time. once you correct people, they'll get it.
congrats!
I would go with Taya.
Thea pronounced Taya would just make me think that this poor girl's parents are incapable of basic English.
I really like the name! a friend of mine has a lil girl named Tayalynn. So cute!
It is listed as one of the pronunciations of the name, we didn't make it up. But, I see where you are coming from.
All of this. At first I kind of thought you didn't even know the name you picked...
https://inogolo.com/pronunciation/Thea
Name: Thea
This site says
https://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Thea.html
Pronunciation:
(THEE ah); (TAY ah)
And that's the only site I can find with that pronunciation for that name. I think they mean that is how you pronounce the variant form, though.
Regardless of what of any site says, though, anyone who looks at that name is going to pronounce it THee ah. And you can correct these people until the cows come home, but they are still gong to think that either she is very much mistaken or her parents can't spell.
Well, now all I think of is that girl TayTay who wanted to name her kid Optimus. Also, the meaning you want to use is more linked with Thea (Thee-uh).
There was someone who wanted to name her kid Optimus, like Optimus Prime?
Yes. And this is what I'm talking about: https://www.goddessaday.com/greek/theia
ea= eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thea = Theeeeeeeeeee-uh
https://www.behindthename.com/name/thea
Either pronunciation is correct. Thea is German - rather like Mathias is said Ma-TEE-as not ma-THIGH-us.
I would not have any questions about your spelling abilities.
This site says it's Greek.
https://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Thea
This site says it's Latin.
https://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Thea.html
This site says Old Greek.
https://www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Thea
Furthermore, that site says that Thea is a short form of the name Theodosia in the German language.
When you check Theodosia....
https://www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Theodosia
It's a TH sound and Old Greek.
So if you're going to go with the Greek definition, it looks like the proper version is TH and not Tay.
Would you look the OP in the eye and honestly say that you wouldn't question that spelling if you hadn't seen it on that baby name website?
Yes, I would look her in the eye. I was not saying the name derived from German, but rather that Tay-ah would be a German pronunciation of the name.
Secondly, I trust behindthename before I would trust any of the flimsy references you quoted. It is not infallible, but is well researched and frequented by people who actually have degrees/careers in the field of onomastics and linguistics. I would trust them over some random fluff that Jane Doe comes up with to make her site have that 20,000+1th name.
And lastly, compared to the random trash I see on a daily basis, where people think that a Y can replace any vowel, or an X is exchangable for a Z, pronouncing Thea as Tay-ah would be the least of the confusion.
Thank you.
after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!
IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
Hey, PT! I got your back - Charlie's Angel style
But I totally pronounced it Thee-Uh too.
. I'm probably not much help either because on a recent Tea (Taya) post, I was all confused about the pronunciation. I just fail at Italian, Welsh and Polish. I love the meaning though if that helps.
ETA: Just read the above post. Better add Greek and German to my list.

I do not understand this. Most people with "sense" will pronounce it Thee-uh unless they know someone who says it Tay-uh like pp.
Also,OP I honestly think that if you go around using the Greek meaning you should say it Thee-uh. If you use Tay-uh, you shouldn't really be claiming the Greek meaning.
