Some kids at the pool were kind enough to share theirs with Katie. I was ok since they were sharing and playing nice but when one of the kids squirted and said "bang bang" I was done. I redirected Katie's attention.
I have seen some really cute non-gun squirters this year and I am getting Katie one tomorrow. I want to see if Dollar Tree has one cheap before getting a cute dolphin shaped one at Old Navy.
Soooo what are your thoughts on water guns?
Re: Water Guns. Discuss.
DS just got some yesterday for his b-day. When he first opened them I was not sure how I felt about them. Then while I was in the house someone opened them and filled them with water for him. I walked out and he said "I squirt Mom-Mom" with a HUGE grin on his face. He was having fun with them and it was very innocent. He looks at them like any other water toy...sprinkler, water balloons..etc.
Now if he walked up and said "I shoot Mom-Mom" or "Bang Bang" that would have been a different story for me.
DS loves his water guns and I havent' had any issues with them yet. However, he plays with them to get stuff wet, not really in an agressive, killer sort of way. If the play turned into that, I'd have to re-think it.
they have some super cute squirters in the shape of crayola crayons. they are long tubes, i think my mom bought them at walmart.
Carson uses squirt guns and refers to them as "squirt gunds" lol. if he tried to act like he was shooting or bang bang i would promptly explain to him that is not a gun, we don't act like it's a gun or bang bang, that is not nice and if it happens again it goes bye bye.
it has not happened yet but if it does that is what i would do.
the issue hasn't come up for us. but i like calling them water squirters.
We don't permit DD to play with any sort of guns; toy guns, water guns, video game guns, etc. It only took one time for her to see her cousin Jace playing with a toy gun and hearing him say "pow pow" for her to catch on. That experience confirmed what we'd been worried about. She hasn't been around one or played with one since.
I have them in my beach bag and my kids are allowed to squirt the sand at the beach, but they are not allowed to squirt people unless the person asks to be squirted.
If they squirt without asking first, the squirt gun goes away for the rest of the day.

It was not until middle school that I realized not everyone has these as hat racks in their brothers' rooms. lol
