St Alexius

Has anyone delivered at St. Alexius?  I have my choice between there and Northwest Community.  NWCH is a bit farther, but I've heard good things from other moms.  Did you have a good experience at St. Alexius?

I delivered at NCH and loved it.  They now have the whole new addition open, all private rooms after delivery (St. Alexius does not have this). I loved the nurses there.

I would deliver at NCH again, in a heartbeat.

My son was born at St. Alexius.  Our experience was great, except for one thing: they still have shared rooms in the mother & baby unit.  We had a roommate the entire time, and the rooms are really cramped to begin with.  When we went on the hospital tour a few months before he was born, they told us that rarely do they double-up on rooms, but it ended up that every bed in the unit was full at the time he was born.

My son was delivered at St Alexius as well.  I had a C section and they told me that rooming someone with a C Section patient is their last option so fortulately I never had a roomate.  I really wish they had provate rooms.  My OB's don't deliver anywhere else so I will be delivering there again.  I was told that they built a new wing that was done in Jan 2010 for mothers and babies with all private rooms but I searched online and couldn't find any verification of that.

I delivered there and had a great experience.  Labor & delivery nurses were great.  There was a complication when my daughter was born & the neonatologist was in the room in about a minute.  My daughter was in the NICU for 4 days and had surgury on day 2.  I was freaking out the entire time & they did an amazing job of taking care of her & keeping me calm.  Because of the problem she had we were concerned she might have trouble nursing (which was really important to me) and the lactation consultants were awesome at working around her condition and making sure we were giving her the best possible start on breast milk.  When I was not happy with what one of the specialists (rec'd by my pediatrician) was telling me about my daughter, one of the nurses got on the phone and found another one for me to call for a second opinion.  In the end I took home a beautiful baby girl who never had another problem and is now a happy healthy 4-year old.  I did have to share a room the first night because they were really crowded but the next 3 days I had my own room.  I don't like that they do not have all private rooms, but I will take that chance and deliver there again because of how much I loved the staff.

I had my son at St. Alexius in 2008 and cannot say enough about the wonderful staff and the care that I received. My son was born at 30 weeks, so our situation was very traumatic. I spent 48 hours in L&D with phenomenal nurses. They made me feel so calm and cared for. Once my son was born, he had to stay in the NICU for 6 weeks. The NICU staff was AMAZING and words cannot do them justice. They were like a second family to us, always there to help and answer questions. Literally everyone that cared for myself or my son were top notch. In fact, a new hospital openend about a mile away from us since then and I will still deliver my next baby at St. Alexius!

The new wing was built at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, not St. Alexius.
