how did you find time to type up your birth story??

i still haven't done this.  i really really want to do it but have been STILL feeling so overwhelmed and on the edge lately that i still haven't been able to sit down and make myself do it or feel like i have the time to do it.  how did you guys find the time/energy to do it??

  • With DD I made notes of important stuff and went back to fine tune it later.  I'd just take 5 minutes at a time.  It will be nice to look back at it!

  • I didn't.
I have told the story a lot though. I'm sure it's morphed into one of those "the fish was THIS big" stories. But, really, isn't the story of the birth supposed to be this horribly hard painful story that you tell to any pregnant woman? How can you scare her with your birth story if this awesome birth story exists somewhere out there n the interwebz?
  • Ummm I was actually thinking today about how I haven't done mine, and Z is almost 7 months... Embarrassed

  • It took a while.

I also got to a point where I felt like I needed to do it for myself- I wanted it somewhere so that I could transfer it to DD's baby book when I felt more up to things.

  • I actually did mine the day after she was born, still in the hospital. They took her for the mandatory rest period (for tests and such), and I couldn't sleep, so I just wrote it out. I knew I wouldn't find time unless I did it before we went home. lol
  • I did it while DD was sleeping on me on Mothers Day.  She was 2 months old.
  • I typed mine up in an email to myself and saved it as a draft. That way, I could type a little, save it and then come back to it when I had time or remembered something else.

I actually still have it saved, and occasionally I remember something else!

I plan on printing it and putting it in a scrapbook that I am going to make for DD.

  • well, with DS i did it while EPing in the middle of the night while he was in the hospital. this time, my doula is going to take notes during the birth for me and then she will come visit once after the birth to write it with me :-)
  • I didn't till she was like 5 months old...and still haven't posted it because I never proof read it.

  • I did both after I got home from the hospital.  I had DH take the babies to give me a few moments to myself and typed them out.  I need to try and find DS' though since I'd like to add it as a journal entry at some point when I fill out my pregnancy journal for the two of them.  I figure they might like to have it when I'm old and gray and can't remember diddly anymore.

i believe our doula did this as well and we have our postpartum visit with her tomorrow - she won't write it with me but hopefully her notes and memories will help us remember too.  :-)

  • I wrote mine in bits and pieces. I really had to force myself to do it.  I was worried if I didn't get it down I would start forgetting things, and I didn't want to lose the tiniest detail. Some one told me once though, that you remember everything about the day your kids were born. I'm really finding this to be true. I remember every little detail. What I ate, what I was wearing, what time I woke up, what time I called DH, ect.....So don't feel overly rushed to get it done.

I still haven't officially done mine and DS will be one in 2 weeks.  My doula did make one for me and its not very detailed, but it was sweet of her. I think that you will remember it.  Even though your life is crazy now, it will slow down and you will be able to reflect and do it then.  I still remember it all clearly after this time.

  • I did mine the day we came home from the hospital. Sounds crazy, but I had been rehearsing it in my head since she was born, and I wanted to get it all down. It was kind of a dramatic delivery (on a moving hospital bed in the hallway of OB triage), and I wanted to remember every fun detail.
  • I still haven't done mine for either kid, although I guess I did an abbreviated on for DD#1 in a "birth book" I made for her first Christmas (it was on Shutterfly). I should probably try to at least get something down on paper, but haven't. Oops!
  • Mine was short, if not entirely sweet.  I wrote it online, but don't even have a link to it - and no one knew me back then, so it mostly got lost in the ether.  Ah well.

  • I think it took me like 10 days.  I was the first student in my Bradley class to give birth, so I was motivated to share with the other couples in the class.

  • It took me a month.  I think I finally typed it up when DH had the baby or when I was wearing her in the Moby.
