Hi Ladies,
I had posted asking what happens in the genetic appointment that is before (but separate from) the amnio.
I can report on our experience. All paperwork appointment, no peeing in cups, no blood, no nekked etc.
I thought they'd ask us to fill out a zillion forms on family medical history but instead a genetic counselor took us into her private office and drew a little coded family tree while she interviewed us about who died of what and how many siblings everyone had: Grandparents, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, She went all the way to our first cousins. She wanted to know about cancer, diabetes. My grandmother lost a baby, she was interested in that (but it was so long ago that we don't know why) etc.
Afterward she told us all about the amnio, the risks it carries, what it can actually predict etc. It was a super comfortable nice appointment b/c she was great. I hope if you have it you get someone as wonderful as this woman was to us. It's the only time in this process I haven't felt rushed. Even my ob, who I like, always makes me feel a little rushed.
Our amnio is in about a week. Anyway, that is all.
Thanks for reading. Hope this helps someone.
Re: Update to "Genetic Appt Before Amnio"
That was exactly our experience. The amnio is actually easier than I expected. Just expect to be off your feet for the rest of the day and take it real easy the next day.
GL!
