Toddler Beds

We're contemplating moving E to a toddler bed after we move in July and using her crib for the baby.  Did you buy a toddler bed? Where?

We looked at Ikea today, but it seems like you'd have to use an Ikea mattress/bed linens.

Re: Toddler Beds

  • Personally, I think toddler beds are a waste of money. If she is going to sleep in a twin eventually, or even a full, just go ahead and get that. You can use a bed rail/rails that will also be able to be used for #2 later and are a lot easier to store and less $ than another bed...

This exactly.  We bought DD's full bed this time around and the baby is getting the nursery furniture (it's neutral white furniture).

  • Wyatt's in a toddler bed, but I think we would have skipped it and gone straight to the big boy bed if the toddler kit hadn't been included with the crib.

  • Kaley went straight to a twin bed. I would skip the toddler bed.

  • We went the toddler bed route because we were in a rental home at the time.   I wanted to wait and buy him his permanent furniture after we bought our house.  We bought the ikea bed and mattress and it's worked out really well.  It's pretty long so he's at no risk of outgrowing it soon and will probably be in it another year or two.

  • We skipped it as well and went straight for a full sized bed because we thought the toddler bed was a waste of money. We got him a bunky board to go underneath the mattress instead of a box spring so that the bed is a little lower to the ground...Joe did pretty well with the transition.

He must have done so well since he originally thought he would have to sleep on boxes Smile

  • We did the toddler bed, but had the one where you used the crib mattress.  But when baby 2 came, we got Emmy a twin because I honestly didn't want to waste money on another crib mattress.  In your case, I would go with a regular bed to avoid buying another crib mattress that is uncomfortable and won't be used for that long.

  • We bought ours at IKEA. It used a crib mattress. We didn't have to buy either the sheets or mattress there.
