Making your own laundry detergent

I think there was a post not too long ago about this.

Has anyone made their own?

I recently did and I love the results. I have enough to make a few batches and it only cost around $5.

I do!

I recently switched to Ivory from Fels Naptha but have not washed with it yet. I am looking forward to it though because I LOATHE the smell of FN.

What recipe do you use? I use the Duggar liquid one (though I have used several similar ones before the Duggar one, this is just a big batch!)

I do and would not go back to buying the stuff on the shelf! we Love using our homemade detergent!

Scroll down about halfway. It gives you a recipe for both powder and liquid. I have used both and both are great!

This is the recipe I used.

Laundry Detergent Recipe
4 quarts water
3 gallons Hot water
1 cup Washing Soda
1/2 cup Borax
1 Soap bar
a 5 gallon bucket with lid

I love the smell of Fels Naptha but I use it as a pre-treater. For the laundry detergent I used Kirk's Castile Soap.

There is also a powder recipe which I plan to use next time. Let me know if you want that.
