My OB recommended this to me after baby #2 is out. We're done having kids but at my age [almost 24] I'm not sure I'm 100% comfortable getting my tubes tied..which is probably a sure sign that I shouldn't
I had the Mirena before baby #2 but the hormones in it affected me [as all hormonal birth control I've ever been on has] and I took it out after 9 months. Since the Paragard is hormone free he thinks I should try that, but I'm still a little hesitant.
anyone who has had it/has it now want to voice their opinion on it? pros/cons?
thank you!
Re: Anyone have/had the paragard IUD?
I have it and I LOVE it. Some of the cons are that it does make your period a little heavier and a little longer. However, for me it only makes my period heavier for one day. Usually the second day of my period is heavier than it was before the IUD but the rest of the time it is normal. Also, it does make my period a little longer but for me it is just a 5 day period and then 2 or 3 days of very light spotting. Before the IUD I didn't have those extra days of slight spotting. Finally, for some women it has been known to cause severe cramps with their period I, however, have very minimal cramping with the paragard.
For me, the pros of having a non-hormonal birth control that I don't ever have to think/worry about far outweight some of the issues I mentioned above. I am really glad I got mine and would def. not change it. HTH
I am glad to hear that someone is having a good experience w/ it as I am hoping to get it after this baby.
I have heard however that they do not work w/ any insurances and that it is a totally out of pocket expence....I am not sure if this is true or not so I would love to hear if other's have had this experience or not (kinda hoping it's not true)
I have it, insurance covered it. The day I had it put it was the most painful day of my life. I didn't take anything before and I had the worst cramps on earth. It made me physically sick. I don't know if I had something else going on or what, but it was terrible. My periods last about 1.5 -sometimes 2 weeks, a lot heavier than normal (month before last I had to change clothes 3 times with in an hour and half of each other-that heavy). My dh says the pain I go through, the heavy bleeding, oh and bad cramps a day or two before. To me though, although sometimes I want another, I'm thankful I have the paraguard to hopefully hold me off a while longer. I've been on hormonal bc before and had rather tolerate this than that.
