help for 2 mo. old - nighttime sleep

Anyone's LO NOT a good nighttime sleeper?!  I am jealous of all the posters whose LO's seem to sleep long periods/though the night!  My 2 mo. old can only go, at the most, 4 hour sleep period at night.  And this is not even every night!

I know every child is different, but I am just wondering what else I could do to move the process along!  DS is 2 mo., a breastfeeder, and he usually gets in 8 feedings/ 24 hrs.  So it's not like he's NOT getting enough.  :)  Also a problem... sometimes he wakes up because of a dirty diaper.  I change him, but then I can't seem to coax him back to sleep - finally I just end up feeding him.  Any suggestions?  Or is this something I just need to "wait out?"

Thanks!

  • DD's the same way. I feel that when she's ready to sleep longer she'll sleep longer.

  • Despite all of the posts you see on here talking about LO's sleeping through the night, that's not the norm during 0-3.

If he keeps waking up hungry, and he seems to be getting full at each feeding then his stomach likely just isn't big enough for him to stay full longer than the 4 hours between feedings.  Consider yourself lucky!  My DD is tiny and up until very recently was up every 2 hours for 3 ounces at a time, all.night.long.

As far as the diaper change goes, are you letting LO get fully upset about it before changing?  I've found that reacting to DD's needs really quickly lets her go back down to sleep much faster than if she's given the time to get all worked up.

  • I agree that it's not the norm and feel lucky that DD will sleep about 7 hrs at night. We started a bedtime routine...bath, lotion, pjs, feeding and she's off to sleep. Have you tried doing that sort of thing to see if it helps?
