did you have to get Cervidil?

if so - can you tell me how it was, did you have to stay in bed after you got it -- i know they usually do it at night so you are trying to sleep anyways, but didnt know if u were allowed to get up to use the restroom and such.

Re: did you have to get Cervidil?

  • I did. No, I wasn't bed ridden.  I got it 7 or 8pm and had bad period like cramps around midnight.  At midnight was given a shot of pain meds that help me sleep and rest up for the big day of Pitocin (however, I've heard that some go into labor with just Cervidil).   I was able to go the bathroom, etc... basically anything I wanted.  However, the initial nurse told me to "pat" dry after peeing b/c she had a woman wipe the Cervidil out (it's like a very small tampon w/string that gets inserted behind your Cervix.... However, the next nurse said "patting" wasn't necessary b/c it was inserted well and there was NO WAY it was going to come out....

Good luck!!   Sending T&P your way!

  • It was enough to throw me into active labor! I didn't even know it. I didn't need pitocin and I thought I would get some sleep through the night but that was not to be! 6 hours later I pushed 4 times and had DD.....yes you can get up to pee by the way :)  GL!

  • I was supposed to receive it but due to a slight complication I was unable to.  I was told that basically it's something that is attached to your cervix.  I would have been bedbound for an hour or two but then free to walk, pee, eat, etc.

My friend went in for her induction the night after me.  She was given Cervadil at around 9pm on Monday.  She woke up around 1am and her water had broken and she was having contractions.  She had her LO by 8:45am Tuesday morning and did not even need Pitocin.

  • I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom or walk around for the first hour but after that there were no restrictions. The Cervidil did absolutely nothing for me so I did not experience any cramps. I was 0 effaced and 0 dilated when they gave me the Cervidil so the nurse had to cram it up into my cervix and that hurt a little. The "worst" part was that when I did get up to use the bathroom I had  thick gel running down the inside of my legs.
  • Yes I did.  It didn't give me cramps or put me into active labor.  I was not stuck to my bed except for a very short time directly after they put it in.  I got mine about 7 at night.
