Alabama Babies

thrifty shoppers

I am getting overwhelmed but would really like to be a better shopper. With not only buying baby stuff but just a general grocery shopping trip. I have looked on a couple of websites that list deals of the week and where you can print off coupons. Do ya'll have any tips on what you do to save, or can we start kind of a saver program.  Such as if you go to the store and see a deal you post it on here like BOGO or good coupons. I know I have seen some posts where we let each other in on deals. I love when Publix has baby food BOGO. TIA sry I was long winded.

  • Definitely start with www.southernsavers.com if you shop at publix.

They have Publix's weekly sales posted in a "checklist" format where you can print off a customized shopping list of things you want to buy that are on sale that week. They also have links below the items where you can print off coupons or where a coupon is for that item. (sometimes in the weekly inserts in newspapers.)

Just from shopping the sales items alone I usually save between 40 to 50 percent off my grocery bill. Granted, there are a few items like milk, bread and bananas that I have to get every single week. But, for the most part we try to stick with what is on sale.

     Good luck!

    There is also www.iheartpublix.com

and my friend has a website where she posts recipes that she will be making according to what is on sale:

    www.fairhopefoodie.com

  • Thanks, just from these websites it seems like people are buying items(like at CVS) and they end up getting stuff, the item free or some kind of bonus bucks. It's crazy, I don't know how they find the time to keep up and to even get out and shop all these places. I don't even cook dinner but I know I will need to as LO gets older and needs to eat table food, and I have to start saving!!!!

  • I pretty much do what Lydia does.  We also go to the farmers market in the summer for fresh produce which saves me some.

  • Also Publix will use three coupons on one item. One is a store coupon that publix gives out. Two is the manufacture coupons and the last is price matching. So if Kroger has something on sale Publix will price match.
  • I love www.moneysavingmom.com.  Crystal has really changed my life and she is such an inspiration!  My biggest tips for saving money in the kitchen are

    1. always prepare a meal plan ahead of time
    2. shop from your pantry first and
    3. keep a few homemade meals in the freezer for those days you're really tempted to eat out- my standbys are pizza dough, meatloaf, baked ziti and chicken tetrazini- I even keep yeast rolls on hand for that restaurant feel :)

I haven't made it to the grocery store in almost 3 weeks and it was truly amazing when one can of pineapple in the pantry turned into Hawaiian Chicken over rice and a side of broccoli this weekend!  I had no idea I already had all the ingredients on hand, I just needed to shop my pantry.
